Just as in the earlier part of the 20th Century , where major labels would rarely market African American artists to a “general audience “ it has become apparent that very few raw garage rock’n’roll artists enjoy the opportunity for exposure and recording here without doing it themselves. We have chosen the name “Race Records” to draw comparisons between the plight of these early blues, jazz and g
ospel pioneers and the current group of home grown musicians, none of whom would exist without “Race” artists. In the late 40’s and early 50’s in marginally more enlightened times the term “Race” gave way to “Rhythm and Blues” and it is in that tradition that we exist. We aim to release records in collaboration with the Artists involved; putting on gigs with the bands we are working with to raise the money to press quality 7” records and giving all proceeds back to the artists when those records eventually hit the shelves of chosen independent record stores. Art before profit, principles before commerce and musicians first. Race records exist to give a platform to artists who want to engage with their audience and protect the traditions of rock and roll music.
