The pop-punk banger of the fall just dropped. On October 20th, U.K.-based happydaze released "Piece of Me" via Thriller Records. On blink-182 day, perhaps the anthem you must listen to is from an up-and-coming band across the pond. This new track is a follow-up to their previous single, "Been and Gone," and a companion piece to their EP Full Free Radical. This song is an absolute earworm.
"Piece of Me" comes out at a weird time because if this were released in May, it would be a contender for the anthem of the summer. However, as a Florida resident, all year is summer; it sucks for everyone else.
I am entirely tired of music videos in most of my reviews. However, happydaze's latest is super fun, and I love it. The video is relatively simple and occurs in an industrial/business complex. It is just some pop-punk/rock boys having fun and jamming out. Sometimes, you do not necessarily need an Oscar-worthy plotline and cinematography for a song. Though I must admit, I love the color grading by whoever edited the video.
"Piece of Me" is incredibly well-produced. It sounds like a track that Travis Barker would be featured on (isn't he on everything these days?). I enjoy the tone of the guitars; they are pretty warm, and I love some Teles. The lyrics are incredibly catchy and relatable as well. It's just overall an enjoyable track to vibe with. Instead of paying $200 to see blink-182, why not spend a tiny fraction and see these up-and-comers? You will not be disappointed.
