Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) for technical assistance to modernize the country’s banking infrastructure. USTDA’s grant, its first in the Solomon Islands, will develop an information and communications technology roadmap to support the deployment of new banking applications that will strengthen the central bank’s operations.

Yesterday the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) approved the renewal of a 90 percent guarantee of a $180 million purchase facility under EXIM’s Supply Chain Finance Guarantee Program. The transaction will support aircraft engines sales from CFM International, Inc., in Cincinnati, Ohio, to The Boeing Company for use in exports.

https://bit.ly/2VgaK3U : EXIM Acting President and Chairman James Burrows and Deputy Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Oleksiy Lyubchenko signed a Memorandum of Understanding between EXIM and the government of Ukraine aimed at enhancing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The signing took place on August 30 at EXIM headquarters in Washington, D.C., following discussions between EXIM and Ukrainian government officials regarding strengthening the economic relationship between the United States and Ukraine through important export and import sectors.

Mexico filed a lawsuit Aug. 4 in Boston U.S. District Court for damages against seven gun manufacturers and a Boston-area wholesaler: https://bit.ly/3mfHJkd

Mexico brought “this action to put an end to the massive damage that the defendants cause by actively facilitating the unlawful trafficking of their guns to drug cartels and other criminals in Mexico,” the complaint noted. "Almost all guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico—70% to 90% of them—were trafficked from the U.S.,” it added.

The Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) yesterday unanimously approved a $97.2 million, two-year revolving working capital loan guarantee facility to support exports of business jet aircraft manufactured by Embraer Executive Aircraft, Inc. (EEA) in Melbourne, Florida. EXIM’s working capital loan guarantee is estimated to support approximately $200 million of EEA’s executive aircraft exports and 700 American aerospace jobs at the company’s manufacturing facility in Melbourne and at suppliers across the United States.

Naman Wakil was indicted in Miami on charges of conspiracy to violate FCPA and money laundering.

Wakil allegedly bribed Venezuelan officials to obtain at least $250 million in contracts from Venezuela’s state-owned energy company, Petróleos de Venezuela S.A., and Venezuela’s state-owned food company, Corporación de Abastecimiento y Servicios Agrícola, from 2010 through September 2017.

In July, the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) approved two transactions totaling $832.5 million in loan guarantees to support exports of U.S.-manufactured Boeing 787-9 aircraft, B737 MAX 8 aircraft and B737 MAX 9 aircraft, respectively, to Turkish Airlines in Istanbul. EXIM’s loan guarantees are estimated to support an estimated 4,500 American aerospace jobs at The Boeing Company’s manufacturing facilities in Washington State and South Carolina, and at Boeing’s suppliers throughout the United States.

The Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) yesterday approved a $500 million loan guarantee to support exports of U.S.-manufactured Boeing 787-9 aircraft to WestJet Airlines Ltd., headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. EXIM’s loan guarantee is estimated to support 2,900 American aerospace jobs at The Boeing Company’s manufacturing facilities, primarily in South Carolina, and at Boeing’s suppliers throughout the United States.
