Dear Readers,

First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for not only your kind messages of support, but the prayers and well wishes I've been receiving. Your support has been so encouraging.

Which brings me to the point of this message.

As you are probably aware, when a message is left here on Facebook or on the Zap Tales website, it has to either be verbally narrated to me or physically copied and pasted. No matter how it gets to me, I will always reply - that won't change.

What has changed is that I've been given a tablet to use on the Jpay system. It's NOT connected to the internet, but I can plug my tablet into a kiosk to check my messages. And respond directly.

Along with speeding up the process, it puts me in direct contact with whomever. If you'd like to send me a direct message (and get a direct reply), all you need to do is go to www.Jpay.com and create an account. You'll need the state (NY) and my inmate ID (99-A-2233) to get started.

Dear friends,

We all know that when folks get together, to keep it peaceful we usually omit our religious or political views—unless you’re the type that just enjoys a heated argument—as when we’re angry or passionate about a subject, it goes farther than a civilized debate.

I think there’s a point we are ALL missing. (And this is coming from someone who just spent the last quarter of a century in a cage.)

Sure, maybe one President can convince big oil to take it easy on the American people better than the next. But if you asked some of our relatives in other countries what they think of five-buck gas, they would applaud it, as most European countries pay Eleven dollars a gallon. They sell it in liters there to make it easier to swallow. Sorta like the can of coffee (etc.) that used to weigh a pound but now it’s ten ounces and the same price.

You can thank big oil for all of this, and since the invasion of Ukraine, I can pretty much bet their dicks are harder than Chinese arithmetic. And we only get seven percent of our oil from Russia.

(I trade commodities from a cage, too.)

Then comes the Roe v. Wade issue, and they also decimated Miranda v. Arizona while no one was looking. It’s one battle after another, and the one percent get richer and stronger, while the rest foot the bill, do without, and just plain old suffer.

I don’t want to debate abortion via a tablet, but did anyone ever stop and think what’s going to happen when these clearly unwanted children grow up? I’m certain the Dept. of Corrections will do well…

But in my opinion, it’s not the politicians, nor the very broken system which is currently in place, it’s US as a whole! As long as we stand apart instead of united—as long as we worry only about only ourselves, instead of the elderly, infirm, or just those in plain old need, as long as our racial and economic divide keeps growing—guess what? Being an American is going to be far different than it was for our parents.

Divide and conquer. It’s the oldest trick in the book, my friends, and everyone reading this now has read about it countless times in one history book or another.

But WE can fix it with one word: UNITY.

It’s a word we no longer comprehend, let alone use.

Now, I will leave you on this closing note: My world is simply a microcosm of the free world; I once wrote that my world is just predators and their prey, a world of cold steel and concrete. When I hear alleged stone-cold killers sniffle as they watch the morning news, as we watch in horror as an old person gets pushed into the tracks, or hear about a war targeting innocent people while the U.S. snatches yachts instead of actually helping, we all really have to step back and think, what have we become?

Happy Mother's Day 💐
Today is the one day out of the year when we are reminded to praise Our Mothers. I am not sure if the date has any significance behind it, or if Hallmark just needed something to hawk for the month after Easter.
Mother's Day can be a bit complicated to many, myself included. I was raised by my biological Mother as well as my grandmother, further molded by a not actual Aunt, adopted as an adult by yet another truly caring woman ( god rest her soul) and now loved, babied and spoiled rotten by my wife.
I am sure I am not the only one in this situation and hopefully we all will do our very best to pay homage to those truly deserving woman in our lives. The one's who instilled wholesome values in us which we now utilize as adults, the ones who took care of us when we were sick, the ones who's door was never locked to us, who's answer to everything was a homemade meal with a much needed hug afterwards.
By all rights we should find more time for them and praise them not just today, but every day as they did with us. Even as they smile patiently understanding your busy and hectic schedules.
Even though they will profusely thank you for the ten dollar plant you bought at the gas station, making just as much a fuss as they did after you made the card with spray painted macaroni on it. Mother's are far more happy just spending time with you.
So to all of you incredible Mothers that have managed to shape our lives in one positive fashion or another, we love, cherish and thank you while wishing you a truly wonderful Mother's Day. ♥♥♥♥

SOCIAL DISTANCING IS HARD ENOUGH IN PRISON.. AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHOOSE WHO LIVES OR DIES. He was not sentenced to death. I feel so helpless and scared to death for him. He is dealing with a reaccurrence of a serious condition, he's severely compromised and dont deserve this. I cant/wont let him fall through the cracks of the most corrupted system in place and refuse to lose him. I dont care if they send him home to me with an ankle bracelet, just send him home now. Senator Brad Hoylman

Dear Senator Hoylman,

I am writing to you on behalf of my husband Guy Zappulla
Inmate ID
who has been incarcerated going on 23 years and if one didn't know him, he would appear as a stone cold convict incapable of the most basic of human emotions.

However, during the course of my 12 year marriage to him I have watched him repeatedly mentor young inmates in order to help them return to society and remain there.

His accomplishments are not just in prison, as along with generating funds for Saint Jude's, Shriners, Make A Wish, Autism Speaks and Ronald McDonald's House, then after hearing of a robbery at the Toys For Tots warehouse he managed to secure funds to ensure even a few more underprivileged children would receive a Christmas gift.

His soft spot didn't stop with the above charities, as pre-covid he was also in the process of sponsoring a little league team for disabled children "The Prospect Park League." I stand by my husband and his decisions but I had to ask him if he was trying to do too much his reply "How can I NOT try."

Sounds Farfetched? Maybe scam of sorts? That's exactly what one of the Toys For Tots founding fathers thought. That was until he himself flew up to see my husband. In short he soon found the person he never expected to find... then flew backup the following year, and they have been what I can only call dear friends ever since.

I watched as he painsakingly designed a website "Zaptalescom" without ever seeing the Internet, then put every ounce of himself into writing a full length memoir titled "The Fourth Side". Then donated every nickel to those same charities, all while taking classes via Ohio state distant learning program.

Now with less than 2 years left on his sentence I secretly wonder if he will make it in front of the parole board as he is literally being left for dead losing almost 10 pounds a month for the last consecutive three.

You see Senator Hoylman, there is one aspect of your bill you never took into consideration which is why D.O.C.C.S isn't concerned about the cost of treating older inmates, they are simply NOT going to offer ANY treatment.

And this is not an isolated instance as several years ago with a debilitating condition which was never going to be addressed my husband filed a motion in federal court and won a federal court judgement...
D.O.C.C.S has still not treated him and ignored a federal court judgement.

If they are bold enough to defy a federal court judge, what makes anyone think they will treat any of the elderly AT ALL? However in being fair the resident quack has offered to weigh my husband once a month and send him for an X-ray when scheduling permits and covid is not an issue.

As you could imagine my tears turned to frustration, and finally anger at the treatment or lack of he is receiving.

Out of anger I told him he should just beat up the very doctor that ignores his cries for help, his response was "maybe 20 years ago, but if I was to do that now what kind of example would I be ?
I would just be the animal they portray me to be.

How many men do you know that would risk death over once again being violent ? I can tearfully write I know and very much love that very man, who I can proudly say is my husband.

The Best Memories Ever.

My Grandmother baking with a wooden rolling pin, The smell of freshly baked honey balls with candy confetti. Honey stuck to my hands and face while swearing I didn't eat any.

A blizzard Christmas morning, My Grandfather sweeping mountains of snow with a house broom, Which proved to me only foolish people had snow blowers.

My Grandmother standing on a chair handing out dollar bills, getting on the line more than once. Thinking no one noticed me the first five times.

Hot Chestnuts after dinner, cracking nuts with a wooden soldier nut cracker. Trying to find the hidden button which brought it to life.

Blinking white lights on a whiter artificial plastic tree, amazed how it had more of a pine smell then the real one’s

A snow globe with an endless supply of flakes. Years before Jax bashed someone’s head in with one.

Red and Green M & M’s, Hershey kisses in gold foil, figuring out the hard way not to bite the foil.

A water ford crystal vase, A serving tray shaped like a Christmas tree. Breaking the vase years later and blaming my sister, “I’m an only child”.

Bird ornaments with actual feathers on it, Homemade ornaments with pins.

My Grandmother waking me Christmas morning, dogs in Santa hats helping her.

Finding hidden presents in the trunk of the car, getting coal in my stocking , finding jewelry next to the coal.

Hot wheels cars, and Tonka trucks made out of metal.

A giant pile of coats on the bed, hiding under the pile wearing mink earmuffs and a headband like Doctor Zhivago .

The dog eating tinsel off the tree, The balls jingling and falling as he eats it. Seeing tinsel in the dogs s**t.

Watching Miracle On 34Th Street, Mighty Joe Young and Babes In Toy Land, like we never saw them before. Quoting a line from it 40 years later.

A red fuzzy tree skirt, A poinsettia plant, and wondering why we didn't have trains.

Getting a Zillion gifts and having more fun popping the bubble wrap from the packaging.

Chocolate coins in a yellow net bag, Christmas place mats and a Fruitcake no one ever ate.

Revolving lights that changed colors next to the tree, wondering whatever happened to the missing bulb.

Waking up to eat a piece of pie, only to find a fork already in the half eaten pie.

Holiday address labels, wondering why Easter seals was advertising for Christmas.

The dog bashing ornaments with his tail, just as Bing Crosby sang White Christmas.

A table of food that never ended, realizing Octopus actually did have eight arms and very much believing they snatched bad children with the Boogeyman..

And being able to cherish each of these moments for a lifetime...

Out of anger I told him he should just beat up the very doctor that ignores his cries for help, his response was "maybe 20 years ago, but if I was to do that now what kind of example would I be ?
I would just be the animal they portray me to be.

How many men do you know that would risk death over once again being violent ? I can tearfully write I know and very much love that very man, who I can proudly say is my husband.
