The iconic Thousand Torii Gates
Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto boasts the mesmerizing path of thousand Torii Gates
⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️⛩️

Marking the entrance to the holy precinct of the Shinto Shrine.
A symbol of spiritual significance rooted in Shinto Buddhism beliefs and practices.
The act of dedicating gates is a symbolic expression of gratitude, devotion, or a wish for good fortune.
Individuals, families, or businesses may contribute funds to have a Torii Gate erected as an offering to the Shinto deity associated with the shrine

My top tip, arrive early, we arrived at 7.30am and there were very few people there.

I Recommend doing the full loop. It took us 1h 30min stopping along the way as it does get tiring.
You get some great views of Koyto enroute.

Experience this Edo Period village via the Wide View Hida Express train
(Included in your JR Pass - If you have it)

Stay in a traditional Japanese Inn called a Ryokan.
These rooms have traditional sliding doors, matt floors and you sleep in single beds on the floor
We stayed at Hidatakayama Futarishizuka Hakuun and had a room with a balcony.
There was also an Onsen and we enjoyed a 12 course traditional Japanese meal.

There is so much to do in Takayama, from daily markets to watching the Carp in the river
Enjoying the architecture of the Edo period buildings built with Hida Wood.

I would recommend going to visit the Takayama Festival & Floats Museum
Where you can see the floats used in the festival which takes place twice a year.

Also, visit Hida Folk Village, It's a step back in time, see a working water wheel.
Farmhouses and learn how villages functioned back in the Edo period.

My top choice for Sushi in the village is: Naniwa Sushi

I made a cake! 🎂
I think it's the first time I've baked a cake in 5 years!
Nigella's Winter Spiced Cake with no fruit and only took 20 mins to prepare.
(It was actually so good that I've made a second one for Christmas & New Year 🤣)
