Are you ready to get your local on?!

World Localization Day Friday June 21, is an annual celebration, convened by the international NGO Local Futures.

Together with community groups, organizations, grassroot networks, activists, and even policy makers, we join forces to raise awareness about the need for a global to local shift and to celebrate the worldwide localization movement.

9am Tue 23 Apr 2024: BELLYPEACE

All you have to do is say the word out loud PEACEFUL and you’re sure to get a wave of ease ride over you .. if not say it again, in fact say it as many times as you need to feel that feeling. Peaceful peaceful peeeeaceful….

My guest today Sandra Handley was a participant in the International Womens Day Masterclass out at Southern Cross Uni last month which is where I first met her, and she’s coming in today to chat about an event she’s organising on the eve of Anzac Day called WAGE PEACE NOT WAR. April 24th is the day that’s TOMORROW! It starts at 5.30pm in Lismore but Sandra can tell you more about that and her mission to blanket the world in peace signs some of which will be created during this event.

In fact Sandra’s idea for a podcast was to spread the words of peace around the world so as an introduction to Sandra you're going to hear part of the podcast we produced during the Masterclass before Sandra arrives from Lismore to join us in person for her first time in the BayFM studios.

So sit back, take it easy, fai fai lemu we say in Samoa. There's a whole lot of peaceful radio coming your way on Belly today!

BELLY - Radio Replay
This show is dedicated to the CBF grant funded project I am currently working on named W.O.W. – Wise Older Women.
It’s a series of 1-hour podcasts with 8 women located in and around the nation who have copious amounts of life experience to share.
My first guest is Helena Norberg Hodge.
Helena Norberg-Hodge is founder and director of Local Futures, previously known as the International Society for Ecology and Culture (ISEC).
Local Futures is a non-profit organization "dedicated to the revitalization of cultural and biological diversity, and the strengthening of local communities and economies worldwide."
I don’t play it as a podcast on the show as that’d be an hour of solid talk which I’m sure even Helena would agree is a bit much for radio. Instead, I drop in some beautiful tunes to give you time to absorb this wonderful talk which I hope you’ll enjoy as much as I enjoy sharing time and conversations with a few of the Wise Older Women that surround us.

Beaming out another show from the Bundjalung bay I have a great full show for you so let me fill you in on what’s coming your way. From Mana O’Kahiko A 51st Generation cultural teacher and practitioner from Halawa Valley on the island of Molokai
