Skype hacked by 'Syrian Electronic Army'. http://bbc.in/18YISlS

The social media platforms of the company have been hacked by a group claiming to be the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA).

The group posted a message telling people not to use , the owner of Skype.

It claimed "they are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments".

The hack comes after recent revelations about surveillance programmes being run by US intelligence agencies.

Skype acknowledged that it had been hacked but said that "no user information was compromised".

The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), which says it supports President Bashar al-Assad, has been behind recent hack attacks on the New York Times and Twitter.

Gold iPhone 5S possibly revealed in first-ever photos

Rumors have been swirling over the past few days that Apple plans to introduce a third color option with the launch of the iPhone 5S. Now, images of what are claimed to be the casing from Apple’s next-generation smartphone in gold have been published by French blog MacBoutic. While the authenticity of the device pictured is unknown, the casing and internal markings do jibe with earlier leaks that are believed to be authentic. Also of note, the shade of gold appears to match images of a gold iPhone 5S SIM card tray published exclusively by BGR this past May.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S during a press conference on September 10, and the device is said to feature a faster processor, an upgraded camera with a dual-LED flash and an embedded fingerprint scanner.

The 5S will also reportedly be accompanied by the mid-range iPhone 5C, which is expected to feature more modest specs and at least five different color options.

New Patent Hints at 'Pay-Per-Gaze' Advertising for Google Glass

Google has just been granted a patent that could potentially pave the way for advertising on Google Glass in the future.

The patent, which was granted on Tuesday, outlines how advertisers could be charged according to the the number of views an ad received while wearing Glass, both offline and online. Google calls the process "pay-per-gaze" advertising. While the patent doesn't specifically mention Google Glass, it does state that its "gaze tracking system" requires a "head mounted gaze tracking device" which "comprises eyeglasses" and includes "side-arms that engage ears of the user ... lenses through which the user views the external scenes, wherein the scene images are captured in real-time" as well as "at least one forward facing scene camera."

Google Glass seems to fit that description quite well, even though Google has mentioned in the past that developers would be banned from displaying ads on the device.

According to the patent, a specific gaze-tracking technique would pinpoint what the Glass wearer was looking at.

The patent also states that the system might identify if — and when — the wearer looked at advertisements. It would then subsequently charge advertisers associated with the advertisements "based at least in part on a per gaze basis" and determine whether the wearer looked directly at the ad, and for how long.

For as many cool gadgets there are in the world there are plenty of gadget failures. We all probably invested in Beta max, Laser disc or some other technology that didn’t take off. Sounded like a great idea at the time, right? The famous UK TV program The Gadget Show recently polled 1000 viewers to determine the biggest gadget disaster of all time. Some were good technology, but were executed poorly and competitors pounced. Some were ridiculous technology that customers never adopted. But they all have one thing in common – they failed.

The winner of this not-so-prestigious title? The Sinclair C5 battery and pedal powered three-wheeler, launched in the mid 80s. Yep, you don’t see many of those on the roads. Nor did you ever as they only sold 20,000 units. Other gadget fails to make the list include Beta max, Sega Game Gear, Pizza Scissors and Rabbit mobile phones. OK, so maybe requiring a sort of receiver box in proximity to the phone wasn’t the greatest idea. But the company went on to become Orange – so they have seen their fair share of success.
