| What is the ruling on wearing clothes with a name of a player who is a disbeliever? A question asked to Sheikh SΔlih al-FawzΔn |
Question:
Someone said, βHonorable Sheikh, and may AllΔh grant you success! In regards to a person who wears (clothing) that disbelievers wear, and has the name of a disbelieverβs player clearly in the back, though without the intent to imitate them or to be like them?β
Translators note: Though it may seem that the question is declarative, the phrasing of the Arabic grammar denotes a tone of inquiry.
Answer:
βThis is glorifying the disbeliever as long as one wears clothing with the name or picture of a disbeliever. This is glorifying the disbeliever, and this is impermissible. This matter (in itβs least form) is harΔm, and if it is (indeed) praising him (the disbeliever), they should fear they are (performing) murtad.β
Translators note: The inclusion of campaign posters for politicians or anything similar of such act falls under this (same) ruling since this act of glorifying or praising is not fitting for any disbeliever who does not believe in AllΔh. Moreso, this act is even forbidden for Muslims to put their faces or glorify them, but how much more if the ones praised are disbelievers.
