“I just recalled an old Star Trek original series episode where a powerful alien lifeform psychically manipulates humans and Klingons into brutally fighting each other onboard the Enterprise and then feeds off their negative emotions — drawing power from their anger, violence, and bigotry. In the end, the solution to breaking the monster’s control winds up being both sides joining together joyfully to ridicule, tease, and laugh at the lifeform, which then weakens and slinks away.

Dunno why that episode came to mind during this election season.” — Emschwiller
