Had some decent fishing the past few sessions, as somehow who’s completely new to the style of it all over here I’ve managed to tick a few species off the list. But filming content is super difficult due to a lot of the fishing is much better at night, I’d say I’ve put in 15/20 sessions without getting any content during the day… the fishing here is no joke, it isn’t easy. Let’s just say us New Zealand anglers take the trout fishing for granted.

A lot of the lures that have got the job done have been Berkley products, a lot of good hook ups being taken on the 3” vibes and a handful being on the 3” walking baits on the surface.

After over a decade of footage, unreal moments, photos, magazine mentions, TV shows, Instagram, YouTube & Facebook. I think it’s time to hang up the boots on the Fishingforeverfilms channel. Once Upon a time I was one very sick dude dealing with Cystic Fibrosis and Mental Health, week on week off in hospital with my body nearly failing god knows how many times the only thing I truely loved was getting out on the water and recording my passion, and that was fishing. After being selected to have Trikafta on the 31st of September it have me hope to think “I’m gonna have so much fishing time now” but after nearly two years on it, it now made me realise I can’t just sit around doing nothing but fishing. As that didn’t pay the bills. Adulthood was in my face and it was a true shock. So I got myself a job and moved out of home and it’s been a huge life change and now I don’t have time for fishing, the price of everything is ridiculous and unfortunately I just can’t afford that. Even though over the career I’ve had being a “social media fishing” it still doesn’t make me think what I’ve achieved with having some of the world’s biggest fishing companies. That makes me feel absolutely amazed to know that these world wide company’s backed me! I’ve been on TV shows multiple times and seen some things most people wouldn’t. But all the recording and struggle to find new content really just made me lose hope for what I once had. I’ve had viewers suggest go back to the roots, but that didn’t work and it’s such a shame. I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m not saying goodbye for ever, it’s just see ya soon. When I have spare time and the opportunity to post a video then so be it, I’ll try. But for now it’s time for this goose to pass the light to someone who’s got more time and passion for fishing now. It’s been a blast team!

Urban fishing at its finest..

Snuck out with Jack to try get a salmon at the mouth but didn’t have any joy, saw some stonking sea run trout but wrong tides. So popped upstream and a flick over the edge into a likely looking holding pool and this monster came out and smoked the 3” Olive Pearl. I’ve talked about those soft plastics more times I’ve had hot dinners. The proof is in the pudding, go grab a packet or two!

Words cannot describe how I felt when I landed this fish, the emotions were real but the pain was true.. these Southern Bluefin Tuna fight like nothing else I've ever hooked yet alone caught. The fight was real.

Ladies and gentlemen we got ‘em…

Words could not describe how much this fish meant to me when we got it in the boat. To think just shy of a year ago I was on my death bed thinking that my life was over.. fast forward that and I’m healthy as ever and landing huge tuna! This was my first Southern Bluefin here in Milford and by god do these fish go! It’s hook up and hold the f**k on… we estimated this one to go around 30KG.

Heard through the grape vine that the kahawai were running down the local river mouth, popped down with the bro and by the end of the incoming tide id nabbed myself a 7lb & 8lb kahawai. One on a Berkley Powerbait Olive Pearl soft plastic and one on a 14g spoon, great fun on the light tackle!

I filmed a video today, so that’ll be up within a few weeks.

Last week I managed to sneak up to Lake Aviemore to do some late season trout fishing, first off was the Ahuriri arm of Benmore but that didn’t produce as much as we liked.. so a quick drive to Aviemore and it was all on, I learnt how to fish on this lake so coming back to where it all started was a absolute blast! We had a good day and I even ticked off the trifecta with a decent brown trout, a small rainbow and also a new PB lake salmon. Can’t complain at all, new video should be up within a few weeks.

Just want to say a big thanks to Ray from the Green Island Fishing club for inviting me along to do a fishing seminar about canal fishing. I managed to cover a large range of styles which include egg rolling, soft baiting and also spoon fishing for both trout and salmon. Also to add on what gear that I use and what gear I suggest which include some products from Abu Garcia & Berkley Fishing.A small but enjoyable crowd with some great questions and comments, fair to say I think I’ve turned a few heads to go up and nudge the Twizel & Tekapo Canals. Also did a small giveaway of some soft plastics and jigheads. Appreciate the time and effort as a club what they did for me, great people.

As winter is here and generally the trout fishing will slow right down due to the cold here in the South recently a few missions to the river has been mental. It’s not often you’ll have action packed hours on end with thumping browns to the net, myself and Jesse experienced a whopping session not long ago on the river. Calm blue bird skies with next to no warmth made it cold but the fishing was red hot.. 20+ fish to the net, nothing short of epic.

Most important tip of the day was fishing the water slowly, generally in summer time I’ll do 4-5 casts in a section. Winter time I’m doing 12-15 as these fish are super cold and won’t move. So you make them bite, that’s the tip..

Soft plastics that did the damage for myself were the 3” T-Tail range from Berkley, matched with a 1/8th or 1/6th Berkley Fishing Sniper jighead..

It’s been a minute since I’ve definitely done a decent post on here, as the trout season is coming to a end I’ve decided to do a video once every two weeks on YouTube so I can have a decent amount of content for the colder weeks ahead.. but in other news, not long ago myself and Dan headed out to the deeper stuff on his boat to chase some table eating fish. First on the list was some blue cod and we managed our limit fairly fast, I even jigged a few up from 100-200 metres deep.. let’s say I’m not built to be doing that too much haha.. but after that we swung out to the 400-500 metre depth and nailed three blue nose, three grouper and also three ling which is a whole new species to me. They’re pretty interesting fish, super slimy and have a decent set of teeth on them. This should be a banger of a video as there’s no shortage of action on the big blue.
