Today is a dark chocolate kind of day. Bittersweet. Exactly one year ago, we released the first issue of Motley Magazine. With support from our friends and the creative communities in Chicago (and beyond) we’ve put together 4 issues, hosted 17 events, and made a countless number of new friends. What started as mumbles of maybe producing a magazine turned into an unforgettable experience. That being said, a year later, we’re bringing Motley to a close.
Saying goodbye to Motley doesn’t mean we’re saying goodbye for good. We’re thankful for the incredible amount of support we’ve received over the last year. We all plan on continuing to be involved in one another’s work and with the creative communities in Chicago we’ve come to know and love.
In celebration of the friends we’ve made, the work we’ve shared, and the memories still to come we’re hosting one last event, Motley Presents "See You Later" It would mean to the world to us to see your smiling faces one last time. All remaining proceeds from magazine sales will be donated to Open Books, an amazing non-profit organization that promotes literacy in Chicago. Thanks again!
With Love,

Our first event was a success. After a bumping show and a wild party, the last few motley stragglers went on a trek to the lake. Despite the authorities removing us from the concrete beach before we could get our fill of the black waves and cold air, the outing was still an adventure. On our way back we came upon a strange sight-- a cicada emerging from its shell. As luck would have it, one of our number, a fellow named Ari Rice, is a certified expert on the racket making bugs. This is Ari on cicadas.
