Our Story

I had this idea in my head for years, and it was to create a place where women and men could come for news and information about the state of women’s equality and find practical ideas for the day to day challenges women face at work, home and in our communities. While we organize and march for political and social change, our daily lives are happening. What can we all do, everyday, right where we are, to promote equality?

The idea grew out of my own personal struggles in my professional life. Like many young people just starting out in their careers, I worked hard to be taken seriously only to have my boss tell me I needed to smile more. (Can you imagine anyone ever saying that to a man?) That’s just one minor example of what women are up against but it serves to illustrate the underlying gender bias that holds women back.

Fast forward 20 years and we haven’t made much progress. Women still only make $0.79 to every dollar a man makes, are still staggeringly under represented in government and account for less than 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs. The data is worse for women of color. This needs to change.

At The Woman’s Report our goal is to explore the conscious and unconscious biases we have toward women, raise our collective awareness and promote positive change. We want everyone to participate.
