Smashing Bricks: A Retro Gaming Podcast Smashing Bricks is a book-club-style retro games podcast looking back on games from 15+ years ago

Smashing Bricks is a retro games podcast in which aging gamers look back on games from 15 or more years ago (often closer to 30), with each episode typically following a replay of one spotlighted game. Host Eddie Inzauto and guests talk history and discuss the newfound appreciation—or perhaps disillusionment—resulting from these book-club-style revisitations. Crank the nostalgia dial up to 10 and get ready to start...Smashing Bricks!

Gotta love Time Magazine being one full year late with this issue, displayed on shelves until September of ‘24.

We retro gamers all know Red and Blue landed on the Game Boy in North America in September 1998. (And the cartoon was December 1998)

Aaaaanyways, it’s still very cool to see this cover. I wonder if Mario has ever made it onto the cover of Time. 🤔

We briefly mentioned this game in a recent episode, comparing it to the early portions of Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. I feel like Timesplitters 2 did first-person shooting much better; I had a lot of fun with this game (even if it wasn’t the next coming of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark).

Thinking about FromSoftware now that Shadow of the Erdtree is out and I can’t play it until August. 😭

Otogi: Myth of Demons is a 2002/2003 FromSoftware game that I’ve wanted to try for years. It’s a rare Xbox-exclusive game, so it might take a while to get my hands on it.

Have you played this one?

Hey Retro Gamers!

In this Retro PrePlay for Silent Hill 2, I explore a creepy hospital and get chased by a walking nightmare. Did this 2001 reference horror masterpiece hold up to 23 years of time marching on by, or is it too much jank and not enough swank? Here’s a first peek at my experience before the episode drops on the 14th.

See it at patreon.smashingbricks.com link in bio.
