For the next 2 days in the town of Ashbourne thousands of people congregate to partake in a football game like no other! Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football has been played every year since 1667 and gets totally wild!
⚽️ There are very few rules but one of the earliest ones is “No murder” 😂

The Ashford Arms a 17th-century country pub in Ashford-in-the-Water, near Bakewell will open its doors on 9 March after being closed for four years 🍻🎉
Following a £1.6m refurbishment, the ground floor, nine hotel bedrooms, gardens and kitchen are in the final stages of a complete transformation 🍻
The restaurant is being turned into a warm, welcoming space, with beautiful design finishes that nod to the history of the building 🍴
It will cater for 107 diners with Raymond Blanc trained executive chef, Adrian Gagea, designing the menu, and multi-award-winning chef, Chris Parker, stepping up as head chef 👨🍳
The premium pub menu will feature pub classics with a modern twist alongside dishes inspired by the team’s travels and world flavours 🌿
Menus will change according to the season, and what is being grown nearby, with ingredients supplied by local farms, heritage brewers and artisan producers. The pub will serve breakfast, lunch (including Sunday lunch), and dinner 🥘
The Ashford Arms is the third venue in the Longbow Bars and Restaurants group, owned by Rob Hattersley (pictured).
It joins The George, an award-winning historic bar, restaurant and hotel in Hathersage, and The Maynard, an award-winning wedding venue, restaurant and hotel in Grindleford.

Dunston Hall and the Deer Park 📌
We are proud to be able to tell you that Dunston Hall has acquired the land known as the Deer Park which is approximately 17 acres of land at the front of the hall. Historically this land belonged to the Hall so we are delighted to welcome it back into the Estate. During the coming year there will be various work undertaken including new paths, enabling safe easy access for our local community to access the Deer Park, Hall, Gardens, Heritage Centre, Walled Garden Centre, Bistro and the Farm Shop and Deli.
We have been consulting with various specialists including an ecologist to create an ecological parkland. This would include areas specifically planted for wildlife, and special areas for local schools to use as outdoor learning spaces. We will be moving and planting thousands of trees in line with environmental impact studies to help maintain the land and encourage wildlife. There will be some fencing work taking place - this is to separate areas within the park providing agricultural space as well as safe areas for new planting.
We would also like to be able to provide much-needed recreational space to the local community, including picnic areas and country walks offering information about the ecology of the park, the history of the Estate and surrounding area. These pathways will also connect the nearby housing developments with each other and encourage walking while providing safe access to the Dunston Hall Estate. Dunston Hall and our team believe we are very much part of the local community. We will be getting in contact with the local residence committees to discuss some of the exciting new plans we have and would love to hear ideas for community events we can hold within the Deer Park over the coming years.
