"ROOTS KOMMUNIKATIONS on The Great TURTLE ISLAND",

aka "ROOTS KOMMUNIKATIONS", was the brainchild of Selekta LapuLapu, aka "Bruddah K". It was created as a vehicle for DJ's of Kolor to present Kulturally Konsyus Mixes and interviews and represent our Kommunities through this Musika~based programming on KPFA Radio. We are part of the programming presented by the KPFA Reggae Kollektive (please see

When you hear us play artists, it is never because somebody paid for hype- our DJ's play particular songs because that is what we genuinely felt was best for that mix for that broadcast at the time. We also bring in special guests DJ's and feature special interviews with Artists and Kultura/Culture~Bearers from the Kommunities of Kolor, with Urban Native Son presenting special recordings from First Nations/Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island / Abya Yala. MAXIMUM RASPEKT to the late, great Benjamin Zephaniah. He has been one of the artists who has been a perennial favorite in I~man mixes since the time me first heard him on his album "RASTA". A sample from his song "P@lestine" is in one of the promo "carts" for Roots Kommunikations. DJ Lapulapu will feature some of his poetry and music on Roots Kommunikations on KPFA this weekend.

Sad news of the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah on December 7th 2023
We worked on his debut release in 1984 alongside the Lionheart Band from Wolverhampton with his unique style of Dub Poetry.
The night I saw Lady Di and You’re under Arrest was amongst the first recordings we did in 1984
Later we worked again in 1996 on his only Album for Ariwa “the Belly of the Beast”

Pedro Reyes closes the program with an interview with a community garden named Mariposa, and an upcoming event.
