RECENTLY, yours truly (K*8) attended Ultra Music Festival for the first time in 6 or 7 years. Did I make a wrong turn and wind up at Disney World, where Deadmau5, is our equivalent of Mickey Mouse (sorry Deadmau5 but you set yourself up for that one.)??What happened to the Ultra that had the REAL SOUNDS of our amazing Electronic Music Culture? I remember more stages, more I guess I have to call th
em “UNDERGROUND” DJs, less “MAINSTREAM” pop sounding dare I call ‘em DJs? For instance, Rabbit and The Moon, was one of the BIGGEST crowd pleasers every year, not just for the music, but for the show they would put on as well. Its sad really, I think I knew maybe 15 DJs on this years lineup, and I didn’t say I liked them all either. To witness John Digweed and Pete Tong play on a smaller scale stage was definitely a more “intimate feel,” but truly baffled me. The Miami Links Rebel Underground stage was by far the BEST talent Ultra had to offer, and it had a much more knowledgeable loyal crowd. You didn’t see all the eleventeen year olds that were at the Mainstream stage all weekend. I was severely plagued by my observations over the course of my UMF expedition. Hence, the CREATION of therubmix.com. I was inspired. Our goal is to Rebel against the Poppy Mainstream b.s that they try to shove down your throat. Be open minded because there is a whole other level of EDM you have yet to experience. Trust us, your mind will be blown!!
