OMG....I am floored by this heartbreaking news... RIP Brenda Bee Lambert and I feel for her husband James Shea. Not sure if I should be pulling for him to survive or pass on...sigh... Sobering...a su***de pack. I can't imagine what they were going thru to make this choice. Regardless it is shocking and sad. I miss you all. Thank you for supporting Verbs and Vibes as only the two of you could. Thank you for being the people you have been for the decade plus I've known you. You all are truly beautiful and have impacted my life. Brenda you will be missed and James I support you in you current struggle. I love you all! May all that know these two find peace and comfort in this trying time.

So I did this thing recently. I had the opportunity to share some of my video work at a theatre that was celebrating the contributions of women in hip hop. I went down many rabbit holes and came up with this montage of women and supplemented it with dope artists and their music videos. Women have been involved in all aspects of hip hop from marketing, promotions, b-girling, emceeing, DJing, producing, graffiti and art.
This is a blend that mixes popular artists and underground ones together, and showcases, in part, the music that spans the 50 yr history of the art form and culture. I hope you learn about some artists and see the complexity and diversity that is hip hop and how women were and are instrumental to it.
There's an African proverb that states, teach a man, you teach an individual. Teach a women and you teach communities. I extrapolate that to nations, countries and the world. This is just a small sample. I missed many. But I applaud those that have in their own way contributed to the art form, to education, to business, to relationships, etc. I hope you enjoy. Adding to the narrative of excellence and achievement during a month we celebrate and honor the global contributions of Black people! We are vibrant and worthy just like all others!

When I read this poem written by a Verbs & Vibes open mic alum, Flora Lark, I was inspired to give my interpretation of it and create a "world" that looked like what I envision in my mind. The world isn't monolith. It is diverse and vibrant and filled with cultures we all can learn from and enjoy. I tried to convey that in this short piece with the powerful words Flora wrote. Of course I couldn't show it all in under 3 minutes, but I can give a glimpse. This is my hip hop perspective! I hope you enjoy!
