Most people like to be praised, but for some, they are obsessed by it. Some people seek fame and want to be celebrities. When they are popular, they get adored all the time. But when they are no longer famous, it can be depressing to be just like a normal person that nobody pay much attention to.
Nowadays, people can also get praise from social media and it can be addictive. In trying to get praise, some can go to the extremes to be liked. They would do anything for the attention, to be considered cool and popular.
While I feel happy if I receive genuine praise for something good that I have done, I also feel such praises are just vanity, to boost my ego. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really mean much. So the people I respect the most are those who do good but do not desire any praises for what they do.
In the Lord’s prayer, we are taught to praise God. This is in the line ‘Hallowed be your name’. Hallowed is used to describe something that is respected, admired or holy. When we say this prayer, we are saying God is holy, He is great, we adore and praise Him.
But why do we need to praise God? Do we need to boost God’s ego like how it is when we praise people?
The answer is no. God does not need our approval to know He is great and holy. Our praises are not needed to make God feel better about Himself. After all, He created us and the universe, and we are nothing.
Rather, God wants us to praise Him so that we acknowledge the relationship between Him and us, that He is our God and we are His people. When we praise God, it shows humility, that we accept Him as our God.
We are His creation and He made us to praise Him. When we do so, we are fulfilling our purpose; the reason why we are created.
Praise God for He is worthy to be praised. When we do so, we worship Him, we say He is our God and we are His children.
Praise God 🙇
