The Fall Season 2022 and what it means for some of your soaps!
With cooler temps and hints of Halloween and Thanksgiving in the air, the fall TV season is about to get rolling in full swing. CBS is using the storytelling strategy of crossovers for not only some of it's primetime shows, like NCIS and NCIS Hawaii, but also for it's two daytime staples: The Young & the Restless and The Bold & the Beautiful. Y&R's Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and B&B's Deacon (Sean Kanan) will cross paths beginning September 20th, both in Genoa City and Los Angeles. Will these encounters rekindle long lost feelings or embark new adventures for the two?
While over on NBC, Friday, September 9th was the last network broadcast of the long running daytime serial, Days of our Lives. But fear not. The show has been renewed through September 2023, airing exclusively on Peacock beginning Monday, September 12th. There is a subscription involved. Will you carry on watching your favorites in Salem if you have to subscribe to the channel? Replacing Days on NBC is an hour-long news program.
Over a decade ago, when ABC cancelled All My Children and One Life to Live (hard to believe it's been that long), The Online Network (TOLN, Prospect Park) picked up both shows and attempted to launch the first online streaming network. They were instrumental in negotiating contracts with all the entertainment unions for this new form of distribution, but alas, they were just a year or two ahead of the curve. TOLN failed, and All My Children and One Life to Live fans had their shows cancelled again. Then, about a year later, Hulu was launched, Netflix pivoted from a dvd video mail in rental company to a streaming service and the rest, as they say, is streaming history.
So is streaming the way of serialized drama aka soap operas in the future? Just imagine all the binge watching! But it will cost you. Would love to hear your thoughts! Please feel free to comment below.
