The term “Upcycled” was created out of need to express in words the basic idea of taking something with a relatively low value and manipulating it to become of a higher value. Product designers easily say that “Upcycling refers to reusing an object in a new way without degrading the material it is made from, as opposed to recycling which generally involves breaking down the original material and m
aking it into something else, using more energy.”
Wikipedia’s database adds that “Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.”
There is a lot of beauty in those ideas but there is a lot more to it than just using waste in order to create something…
Upcycling is an uprising discipline that evolves daily. There may be several definitions that refer to what it means to upcycle a thing, but we all agree that it is a very wide term and doctrine that have not yet come to its full definition. Be it in terms of designing new furniture, using raw materials for a better cause or upcycling an idea or concept to be of a higher value for humanity. We will march through this upcycled world of us and bit by bit expose all the visible and hidden aspects of upcycling.
