The superstar teacher of the month for December is none other than Miss Savanna! She has recently leaped into the 3's and School Age classrooms, bringing warmth and joy to both classes. Her dedication has sparked remarkable growth in her students, and we couldn't be prouder!

Miss Savanna showers her kiddos with love, her heart as big as the holiday spirit itself. She lights up the room like the brightest star atop the tree, connecting with her little learners in the most magical way.

As we celebrate this holiday season, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for all that you do, Miss Savanna! Keep shining bright, and may your days be merry and bright!

Proposition A Information

In the coming weeks, Northwest ISD voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots in the VATRE, listed as Proposition A in the sole Northwest ISD ballot measure, which would generate $16 million in revenue to maintain student programs and class sizes. Without additional operational funding, Northwest ISD may have to consider increasing class sizes and eliminating some student programs, as some districts across the area have already implemented.

As districts across Texas face ongoing budget constraints following a lack of legislative action to address outdated public education funding models, many schools have cut programs, increased class sizes and more. In one area district, some kindergarten classrooms have 28 students. In another district, some high school classrooms exceed 40 students. By comparison, Northwest ISD operates kindergarten through fourth grade at a 22-student classroom model, while high school classes typically feature fewer than 30 students. Northwest ISD’s VATRE is designed to maintain these class sizes.

Tax Impact

The VATRE asks voters to consider increasing the maintenance and operations tax rate by 3 cents. This would result in an impact of an additional $120 in taxes for a home valued at $500,000. You can calculate the tax impact on your home valuation on the district VATRE webpage. Northwest ISD’s M&O tax rate of $0.6669 is the lowest legally allowable K-12 M&O tax rate in the state, and the proposed rate of $0.6969 would remain one of the lowest M&O tax rates in the area.

Election Day: Tuesday, November 5

Beginning this school year, Northwest ISD will implement new cellphone standards for students that prohibit the personal use of devices during class time. These new standards balance the importance of distraction-free classroom learning with the need of cellphones during emergencies.

A Para-professional (or Special Education Aide) is a great opportunity to make a difference with students supporting a classroom teacher. If you know someone who is interested in education, but doesn't necessarily have a degree, or certification as a teacher, this is a great way for them to work with students.

Congratulations to the Northwest ISD Financial Services Department for earning seven top state and national recognitions! The department earned the honors for its commitment to best practices and transparency. Notably, the district has earned three of the honors for at least 20 consecutive years, and it is among just 77 of the state's more than 1,200 districts to earn another honor.
