Ceiling cloud panel build & installation complete!
Well… the studio desk fit perfectly in the 20 foot Uhaul, so I almost considered keeping everything in there and just doing mobile recording 🤣🤣 but I figured I liked this better. After a day of loading the truck & moving, a day of unloading, and a few hours of setup, things are starting to come together in the new space! I still have a lot to do like wiring everything up, putting up acoustic treatment, and getting my lighting and decor in order, but I’m happy with how things are turning out so far!

Time to move some gear.
After 20 years mixing music in this same room, today I worked on my final project here. The new studio space is ready for gear to be brought in, and it’s going to be a bittersweet moment tearing this all apart. So many great memories were created here with excellent bands and musicians, but I’m beyond stoked to get set up and start cranking some tunes in the new space!
Congratulations to Jessica Yang on her latest release, "Good To Me"! I had the pleasure of mixing and mastering this one for her, and it's such a great song! Jessica will also be featured on the Thai Sounders Farewell Tour for the Michigan date at the Crofoot Ballroom on March 11th. Congrats Jessica on such an awesome opportunity!
I had a little fun with this one! I turned on an INSANELY LOUD vacuum right next to my microphone to see if we could completely remove that noise from the vocal recording.

Making some drums SLAM today!
Since the beginning of March 2022, I’ve been quietly working very hard on something and I’m finally ready to share it with everyone!
I started recording bands over 20 years ago while still in high school when some friends asked me to help record a demo for their band.
At that time, I had zero experience and had no idea what I was doing.
After a ton of experimenting and a lot of creativity, I recorded that demo with just a small mixer and a couple of microphones from a karaoke machine.
That experience sparked my passion for audio. I've since had the pleasure of working on nearly 1000 songs and have made a career out of operating a home studio.
Fast forward to today, and we’re now living in a time where music production tools are so easily accessible (you can literally record music on your iPhone), and musicians are creating some of the best music of their lives
While it’s 100% possible to create professional-sounding music from your bedroom, so many people struggle to get their songs to sound the way they hear them in their head.
►► That’s why I created "From Zero To Studio".
I started From Zero To Studio to help home recording enthusiasts grow their skill set and production quality from literally "zero" (just starting out), to having a fully-functioning home studio and the ability to produce quality recordings.
By providing regular helpful content, tutorial videos, free downloadable guides, and even gear & equipment recommendations, my goal is to encourage growth and see transformation in the way people create and record music.
I’ve always had a deep passion for teaching and inspiring others, and that stems from my days of being a drumline instructor for youth organizations. Although the days of teaching drumlines are long gone, this is a way to combine two things I really enjoy — Teaching & music production.
Ocean Recording Studio will still be alive and active for all things recording & mixing, while From Zero To Studio takes on the role of helping others get better home recordings.

Making some meters bounce on this busy morning today! Finished up and sent out final masters for one record, completed mix revisions and sent out the updated mixes/masters for another record, and just finished mastering a new single for a 3rd artist all before 1pm. Get it!!
