“Since dalawa lang kami, me and Lara should compromise and we really need to talk about kung ano yung kailangan naming akuin since we have five offices na vacant so we need to split it into two right now kung sino yung maghahandle.”

“I already considered that there would be big chance na maraming vacancies within the [Executive Board]… siguro it’s a matter of a dialogue between me and Jogs to really find out kung ano kung pwede naming magging gawin lalo mayroong mga vacant [positions].”

SAY HELLO TO A NEW CHAPTER! ✨

The seniors of the Asian Studies program have reached a milestone in their college journey as they gather at the annual Baccalaureate Mass before proceeding to their next chapter, the Solemn Investiture, on June 10.

This traditional event was held on Friday, May 31, 2024, and provided them with a moment for reflection and anticipation, preparing them to embark on the future.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the UST Asian Studies Society conducted its annual One With ASEAN (OWA) celebration onsite last May 28, 2024, at the St. Raymund de Peñafort building and Thomas Aquinas Research Complex, with the theme, "One With ASEAN 2024: The Story of One Identity through Nationalism and Cultural Diversity.”

The UST Asian Studies Society conducts the One With ASEAN (OWA) 2024 at the TARC Auditorium and St. Raymund de Peñafort Building on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

The annual event features performances and booths from each block showcasing the ten ASEAN member countries. This is the first onsite One With ASEAN event since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UST Asian Studies Society Elections Committee proclaims two new officers for the academic year 2024-2025 on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the TARC Auditorium.

Lara Sophia Chua is elected as the new ASSOC president garnering 116 votes. Meanwhile, Manuel Antonio Salak is the next external vice president, with 116 votes.

The outgoing ASSOC president, Mary Carl Buasen spearheaded the oath-taking of Lara Sophia Chua as the president for the next academic year.

It is a compilation of literary works and visual artworks that aims to uncover the stories that paint colors to how Asian Studies students view their world, as Asians and for Asians. 🐉

All submitted works will undergo proper screening prior to publication on the official UST Asian Studies Gazette website and official social media pages to be compiled into one literary portfolio. BREAKING: The UST Asian Studies Society Elections Committee declares a failure of elections for the UST Asian Studies Societal Elections for the academic year 2024-2025.

As per the resolution released by the ASSOC Elections Committee, the voting turnout was 135, less than two-thirds of the 217 total voting population.

'IT’S BARE MINIMUM’

UST Asian Studies Society candidate for treasurer Ronan Timothy Asturias clarifies that it is a 'bare minimum' responsibility to safely manage the Society’s finances.

Asturias says that integrity, accountability, and professionalism must always be upheld when handling the monetary funds of the Society.

UST Asian Studies Society candidate for the position of vice president-external, Manuel Antonio Salak clarifies that there are no community development proposals under his platform, citing that it is a general requirement in the University.

Salak also plans to focus on the three categories, namely, Advocacy, Outreach, and Community Engagement.

UST Asian Studies Society presidential candidate Lara Sophia Chua reiterates the potential workload of an incoming senior and possible president and her preparation for undertaking such responsibilities.

Ronan Timothy Asturias, the UST Asian Studies Society treasurer candidate, argues that the administration’s ‘authoritative’ approach and some student organizations’ ‘toxic’ work ethic are the reasons for the lack of participation in student politics.

Asturias says that initiatives for the students and by the students can enhance students’ motivation and engagement in the Society.
