I have finally entered the world of sourdough bread... I guess I decided I needed something else to take care of outside of our children, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, cows, goats, pig, cats, dogs, and several gardens 😂

So here's Pete making his entrance ...day one, starting the sourdough starter. Y'all wish us luck ☺️

This just may be my last hatch if the spring/ summer. I haven't decided just yet...but I do know I've done a great job at not overwhelming myself this year like in years past .. with garden season approaching, I feel it may be best to wait until the fall to start hatching out again ...

However if any of our hens decide to go broody, I will still let them hatch some out.

We are still selling hatching eggs as well.

Something is wrong on our little homestead... For the first time ever, I beat my kids to a small fruit harvest😂. Ever bearing strawberries and raspberries.... There's so many blooms and baby strawberries them and they are making baby plants galore..

The raspberry plants were planted in January.. I can't wait until they fill up the bed and I can pick enough to make jam, freeze whole and have them fresh.

We had such high hopes for this little guy, but his grow out weight didn't make the cut.. he is 1/4 felmish and 3/4 standard Rex . He is right at breeding age. We feel he would make someone a nice color project breeding buck over butchering him. If you are interested in him please pm us!

My little homestead is based on sustainability.. I plant certain crops that multiply year after year to bring in alittle extra income. It's not much, but helps tremendously with the feed bill.. we also barter alot to keep us sustained. We strive to recycle and keep prices low as possible ...

How can you support me? Well we have several peppermint plants available and just transplanted more that will be ready as soon as the transplant shock is over with. You can also get on our later summer waiting list for strawberry plants ($3 each) We are hoping to produce just as many plants as last year. All of our plants are grown chemical free and fertilized with compost and rabbit manure from our own animals.

We will also be set up at the small animal swap at Vance Tire & Alignment this Saturday, May 11th. There I will have:
A Nubian buckling goat
Rhode island red chicks (3 weeks old)
Rhode island red hatching eggs
Turkey hatching eggs
Peppermint plants ($1.50 each)
Black walnut saplings ($20 each)
Sunchokes ($2 each)

To support us in the future we will be offering produce and eggs for locals. So give us a like and a share please.

Also to everyone who wanted luffa gourd starts, ours are just now starting to emerge.

Things we love to barter for:
Hay bales, sausage, meat chickens or roosters of dual purpose birds, feed, produce that we haven't grown, buckets (can never have to many buckets) and more.

In 2022 I made this bed. It was filled with pine sawdust and rabbit manure. I planted sweet potatoes in it. It was my first time growing sweet potatoes...and boy I was surprised by how many we got. Last year I didn't plant anything. It really doesn't get much sun so I deemed it my seed mixture bed.. today I pulled the weeds out and started a few seed trays.. let me tell you ...I think I'm starting a worm farm🤣... The amount of worms were crazy in here...but it's the best consistency for starting seeds...

Now for some more exciting news.. I planted 23 black walnuts back in the fall.. 20 out of 23 have emerged and are growing! And for a teaser...some of these may be available for our fall plant sale...it just depends on if we can find a place to plant them all.

Then I noticed the other day, 7 out of 12 American persimmon trees have sprouted.. hopefully in the next few days there will be more sprouting. These will all be available for our fall plant sale.

We have black walnuts I planted getting off to a good start!

Look at all these herbs ...and I'm still not done 😂.. this is what's left over after all our preorders I had from the winter (posted on my personal page) ..
I also ran out of pots and recycled water bottles for temporary starter pots.

We have more peppermint to transplant (will have approximately 50 total)
We have more oregano to transplant (will have about 50-75 total)
Unfortunately as of right now we won't be transplanting any more rosemary (we have 11 starts total) or spearmint (we have 2 starts total)
We have more Jerusalem artichokes to plant (unsure how many)

Guys don't pay the $3-$6 in stores for the herbs I have listed

Our peppermint, spearmint, oregano, and rosemary are only $1.50 each and our sunchokes are $2 each..

If I am able to transplant strawberries in time they will be $3 each.

You can come see us Vance Trading Post on April 6th from 8am-4pm.. we will also have one of our baby goats, rabbits and chicks there ..for only $1 you can get some great play time and selfies/photos with your children with the animals..

Nubian buckling. He's mostly white with a grey tipped tail and very slight tan markings.. we have been calling him Casper... Will be ready for new home in 2 weeks.. we were going to keep him longer, but he's starting to act "bucky" already. We bought him, his sister and his momma a few weeks ago. We can't keep him because we are keeping his sister.

He has not been dehorned.. he is not registered. he is dam raised, but handled and gentle..

His mom gives us right at a half a gallon each morning and is a first freshener as well as nursing home and his sister

Located in Brookwood, Tuscaloosa county.

Our little starter goat herd..

Yesterday we welcomed a bottle baby to be our future herd sire.. we are expecting some pretty babies next year from him.

Photos 1 and 2 are the new Nubian baby . His name is phantom.
Photo 3 - Nubian twins..blue jean (doeling..we are retaining ) and Casper (buckling who will be available once he's weaned.)
Photo four-nubian doe.. Sahara... She may not be the friendliest goat, but she an easy milker.
Photo 5- Millie. We are unsure what she is, but everyone seems to think she is an F1 mini Nubian (Nubian Nigerian dwarf cross) and her buckling (who has been claimed) along with the new Nubian buck

Photo 6 ..Millie's buck and new buckling. They look like they could be brothers.

To think for years (like going on 8 years now) I've wanted Nubians and all these just basically fell into my lap.

To say I'm so glad I went with goats for milk is an understatement.. with a cow I would get this much if not more a a day.. this is from the last 4 days... From 1 mini goat and 1 full sized goat off 1 milking a day.. I guess I better start experimenting in cheese and yogurt making soon as it won't be much longer before I'm milking twice a day..

Bunnies ready to hop along. If you follow my personal profile, you know this is our third batch.. if you aren't friends on my personal profile, I'm sorry that I let y'all miss out on the others , but this is our last batch we are offering. We are unsure if we will have any more available this year as our breeding season is winding down.

These little rabbits are 8 weeks old and will grow to be 8-10 pounds . They are used to being handled and should grow to be gentle giants..

I do want to say if you are getting for an Easter bunny, and it doesn't work out, please do not dump them. Domestic rabbits are not related to the wild cottontail and cannot survive in the wild. We will happily take them back with no charge and find another home or help in the rehoming process so you can know who will be getting it.

Located in Brookwood, but can meet in cottondale on Friday morning or Vance on Tuesday mornings.

Looks like the chooks have to go on lockdown... we noticed they had slacked off the last few days. I didn't think anything about because we don't let them out of the coop (a barn with a run attached to it) until around lunch.. but low and behold walking in the woods we find eggs😝

Give them a barn and and several nest boxes to lay in and they lay in the woods.

On this rainy day, I'm enjoying the farm life.

As y'all know , we switched from our dairy cow to goats for milk. Besides finding it very hard to get ClaraBell bred (due to our schedules, not due to her ), there were other reasons. We bought a mini goat when we first got serious about selling the dairy cow. My husband sat me down and asked what was I going to do with 3-4 gallons of milk a day if not more. I mean I could feed it to the animals, make cheese and butter, but I also know that's still alot for what we eat. not to mention, goats have a much shorter gestation period, costs less to upkeep and will produce enough for our family. I got a half a gallon from Sahara and a quart from Millie today.. that's 3/4 a gallon from one full sized goat and 1 mini goat off one milking a day. Here in about 2 weeks Millie will need to be milked twice a day. Then a few weeks after that Sahara will need to be milked twice a day.. which means this time next month , I can expect a gallon and a half a day... That's alot of milk for us...but I'm excited to experiment in goat milk cheeses.

I'm the worlds worst about just posting everything on my personal page instead of here... So here's a photo dump of everything going on in the last few weeks.

We made the decision to sell ClaraBell (our jersey cow), with that decision came another goat and her 2 babies. This time they were Nubians and she gave us 3 pints of milk this morning..she's not super tame and I have the bruise to show it 😂 (no, she's just not used to being handled, but has really come around). We've been loaded on hatching eggs .. so many eggs... next month we have one of our other cows going to the processor, and then another that will be going in June.. we still have a load of rabbits soon to be sent to freezer camp. So far this year we have butchered 80 pounds of rabbit meat. And we just started the first batch of turkey eggs in the incubator. I've also hatched out another batch of chicks... Making a total of 67 chicks hatch out this year. I will wait 7 days then fill the rest of the incubator with more Rhode island red eggs.

For the garden, we planted potatoes a while back and I just pulled dirt to them , I also have onions planted and we bought raspberry plants that are already branching out. The Bern's are growing like crazy as well. Today I got 3 loads of topsoil hauled in to make our big garden a little better this year...oh we Also expanded our garden beds by adding 6 new beds measuring 4x8x10. And my chickens made a ton of compost (enough to fill three full beds ...but we are going to mix it with top soil to make it go further).
