This week’s Wait Lifters’ theme, in honor of today’s Haiku Poetry Day is on it “comic cousin” – Senryu poetry. Senryu uses the same format of 3 short lines of unrhymed thoughts that haiku does, but while haiku is usually about Nature, senryu take its themes from human nature, often with a humorous twist.

Vincent van Gogh was born on this date in 1853, so I will say an early farewell to the month with one of his cheery sunflower paintings. (Did you know he made many?) According to the Van Gogh Museum website (https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/collection/s0031V1962) sunflowers to van Gogh symbolized gratitude. Thank you for the cheer you bring to me.
