FOR DORA (1)
"Have you seen the cute guy that was transferred to our branch this morning?" Loveth burst into my workspace, her eyes dancing with excitement.
"Which guy?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Loveth, my vivacious colleague, was a whirlwind of emotions whenever an attractive man joined our ranks. She was a curvaceous, friendly woman, but her reactions to new male colleagues, especially transfers like this one, always seemed a tad overboard. There was something intriguing about this particular guy, something that had her acting differently.
"Look, Dora," she continued, her voice laden with intrigue. "You need to see how irresistible this guy is. His eyes, Dora, they're captivating. And those abs – oh my, they're perfect! I'll make sure he notices me in this firm. It's just a small office, after all. It's bound to happen!"
I couldn't summon the same enthusiasm for Loveth's fantasies. I'd been living a celibate life for some time, and I had no plans to change that anytime soon. My lack of enthusiasm was clear on my face, and Loveth noticed.
Her excitement deflated as she sighed and said, "Dora, you can't keep shutting people out like this. You're young and beautiful, and you can't let your past control your future. Please let bygone be bygone, you can't turn back time. Let go of the past and focus on the present."
I tried to explain, "I appreciate your concern, Loveth, but it's not as simple as that..."
"That's why I'm here," she interrupted with a warm smile. I felt a sense of gratitude wash over me, something I hadn't felt in a long time. "Thanks for being not just a friend but a sister to me," I said as I hugged her tightly.
Life had started to brighten up after I befriended Loveth in our Hotel branch. Her spirit was as lovely as her name, and every day with her was a burst of joy.
As the day drew to a close, I hurried to clear my desk, wanting to leave on time. That's when I noticed another group of female colleagues chattering and giggling excitedly, undoubtedly discussing a male colleague, probably the new transfer. I couldn't help but wonder what made this particular guy so special, given the recent buzz.
With my desk cleared, I headed to Loveth's office, intending to leave together as we often did. But when I arrived, she was nowhere to be found. "Has Loveth already left?" I asked her neighboring colleague, who shrugged in response. No one seemed to know her whereabouts, and her phone wasn't connecting.
Worried, I stepped outside, thinking she might be at the cafeteria or handling an urgent matter. Yet, Loveth was nowhere in sight. "Perhaps there's been some kind of emergency," I thought, trying to reassure myself. With a sigh, I decided to call an Uber and was about to place the order when I spotted Loveth talking animatedly with a stranger.
As I observed Loveth animatedly talking to the enigmatic stranger, a nagging sense of unease settled in the pit of my stomach. There was an air of mystery about him, a mystery I couldn't quite put my finger on. His eyes bore into mine for a fleeting moment, and a shiver coursed down my spine.
Something about him seemed familiar, yet I couldn't place where I had seen him before. His presence felt like a riddle waiting to be unraveled.
My concern deepened not only for the enigmatic stranger but also for Loveth. She had a free-spirited and jovial nature, often wearing her heart on her sleeve. I feared that someone might be trying to take advantage of her openness, and it made my unease all the more pronounced.
Meanwhile, a sense of foreboding hung in the air. I couldn't shake the feeling that something significant was about to happen, something that would change the course of our lives. Was it a coincidence that Loveth, the new transfer, and this stranger were all connected somehow?
I decided to keep a close watch, my instincts on high alert, suspecting that there was more to this situation than met the eye.
