Mom was sifting through her recipes the other day. She was telling me about her paternal Grandmother and how she would make molasses cookies for Mom when she was a little girl and how that smell of cookies baking took her back to being a little kid.

I have fond memories of my Abuelita's homemade toritillas, or my Grandma's fried chicken. And of course, still the thing that Mom makes, her version of Mexican fideo is still my favorite. Ol' Red will request it from time to time because he loves it and always asks her to make a double batch so he can take some to work!

Oakley turns 11 this week! Did you know that according to Animal Planet, dogs can learn to recognize a vocabulary of about 165 words. Dogs respond best to short words, as well as words with hard consonants like “t” or “r,” which may explain why they can hear “treat” from three rooms away. And don’t believe the myth: Old dogs can learn new words just as well as young dogs.
