Jeanne Bastos was born in the musical melting pot of Bahia in northern Brazil. The melding of African, Portuguese and indigenous music there has produced great artists such as Joao Gilberto and Gal Costa. Jeanne began singing gospel in the churches and started professionally in the dance clubs of the capital Salvador. Her soulful and passionate performances soon drew attention. By 1996 Jeanne was

touring as lead singer with the famous Carlinhos Brown ensemble “Timbalada”. After 33 concerts in Italy, Germany, Denmark, England and Holland she performed at the highly respected Montreux Jazz Festival. Invited to Japan by producer Etsuro Ohtsu to record a solo album she moved to Tokyo and performed for the next few years at festivals and famous jazz clubs such as Tatou Tokyo, Sweet Basil, Key Note and the renowned Blues Alley. The project “Planetmuzic”, a collaboration with Australians Sean Mackenzie and Dale Barlow among others, brought Jeanne to Sydney. Here and in Melbourne she has mesmerised audiences at festivals and was invited to perform at the celebrations for the 2006 Word Cup in Germany. There she renewed her musical friendship and recorded with guitarist Lulo Reinhardt (grand nephew of legend Django). Jeanne appears currently in “Pisa na Fulo” a collaboration with other female Brazilians performing original material and is the exquisite voice of Sussurro.
