From the memory spools of Chauncey, home made robopoet, circa 2061...

Progress always accompanied by death.
The reaper is the grim liberator.
Perhaps there is a fixed number
That will tip the scales of freedom.
Perhaps it is only a program.

From the Aeternean herald, January 20 2061
Several teens were hospitalized yesterday, due to an increasingly frequent reaction to improperly brewed soyshine. The teens were at a gathering at the east exhaust vents on the seventh spoke. The Aeternean parental committee has released a statement expressing their outrage, and calling for authorities to shut down all illicit activities I'm the twelve spokes. The office of the high council could not be reached for comment.

Design and Psychology: 9.6
Human History: 6.6
Global 1 Awareness: 5.7

General comments:
Melvin is clearly highly intelligent, but only applies himself to the subjects of his liking. If he is to be an upstanding Aeternean citizen, then he must learn to curb his personal interests in favor of the common good.

From the memory spools of Chauncey: the essentials trilogy final verse:

Air
Invisible and ubiquitous
Intangible and essential
From whence does your oxygen come?
From leaves of green
Gleaming wet in the cool morning?
Or is it from the hot breath of the blinded and hobbled?

Essentials trilogy, second verse
By Chauncey

Sizzling soy cake
Mimicking flesh
From whence have your beans and spices come?
From emerald potted fields
Sweet of smell?
Or from the chimneys of industry
Belching forth the stench of carrion

Little spigot
In the bathroom
In the kitchen
On the lawn
From whence does your water come?
Is it from the pantomime hills
All bathed in barley?
Or does it flow from the aching hands of the enslaved?

Lament of the Neon Sun:
by Lana Savinsky, 2061

First verse: Cramped Giraffes.

When god decided to destroy all life on earth,
he told Noah to build a vessel
strong enough to withstand the coming cataclysm:
The Ark.
Compelled by the word of God,
Noah filled his completed ark
with every animal he could find,
so he could steward life's rebirth after the storm.

But Noah was at sea for so long,
his soul became ill
and his brain was devoured by fear
and desperation.
He lost his bearings.

One day
while standing on the deck of his floating holding cell,
Noah spied a dove, flying out of the dawn.
It set down just next to him,
clutching an olive branch.
He took the branch from the fair bird's beak
and tossed it away into the flood waters.

He never spoke of this to the animals.
For he knew, that if they were to land,
other ships could be built
and new captains could arise.
Noah's twisted pride would not allow this.

And so he sails on today,
while we,
the giraffes and antelopes and even tigers,
we
lie docile,
eating the gruel made from the ground unfortunates,
allowing our stalls to be mucked without protest.

But what noah refuses to accept
What the animals don't realize
And what god knows is this:
You can take a giraffe out of Africa,
but it's more trouble than its worth.
