Described as a “flame-haired stick of dynamite in a sparkling dress,” Whitney Shay is fortunate to have toured the world with her amalgamation of rock, blues and R&B. During her first 10 years in music, Shay has seen four wins at the San Diego Music Awards, a nomination at last year’s Blues Music Awards, and the tag of “future blues icon” bestowed by Blues Matters Magazine.

Though her planned show at Belly Up is off, you can still check out our cover story on the San Diego native online and in the latest issue of CityBeat.

San Diego native Whitney Shay was walking through cold, windy St. Petersburg, Russia, while on tour when she realized just how lucky she was.

Rooftop Cinema Club, located atop the iconic Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, announced yesterday that it has postponed its 2020 launch due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak. The venue was set to open April 1.

Rooftop Cinema Club released the following statement to guests who had already purchased tickets to upcoming shows:

"We were hoping to open as scheduled to provide an escape from the current climate, but given the rapidly changing landscape of COVID-19 and recommendations from federal, state and local officials, we have decided to postpone our season launch. The health of our guests, staff and community is always our top priority, and for these reasons, our Rooftops will not open until May 1.

"As this situation is ever-evolving, this could change. We will let you know as soon as we have a confirmed opening date for all venues.

"We know many of you were excited about our spring program and want to assure you that we'll do our best to include as many of those films and special events as possible when we release our summer program.

"In the meantime, we wish you Love, Peace & Great Film—from the comfort of your own home. We look forward to entertaining you on our Rooftops soon."

Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

The Music of Cream began in 2017 with a handful of concerts celebrating the 50th anniversary of Cream - Band in Australia and New Zealand.

For 2020 and beyond, The Music of Cream will hit the road with a new show and lineup. Honoring the original band’s landmark 1967 recording of “Disraeli Gears,” often considered Cream’s crowning achievement, concerts will feature the album performed in its entirety, followed by “Clapton Classics” including hits like “Cocaine,” “Layla” “Crossroads” and “Wonderful Tonight” along with other Cream hits and rarities.

For Kofi Baker, playing the music of Cream is bittersweet.
