Who The Hell Is Libra Rising Music?
Hello friends & music lovers.
My name is Jesse Scott (Aka J. Scott G. - my producer/stage name), and today, I thought I’d take a second to introduce ourselves, especially to those of you who haven’t heard of Libra Rising Music and who might be wondering who the hell we were. After all, most people in their right mind wouldn’t go to an event without knowing a bit about the promoters who were throwing it, right? I probably wouldn’t.
My wife, Naomi Sioux, and I have been living in Portland for about 7 years now, and before we moved here, we were living in San Francisco/Ventura, California. To be perfectly honest, we didn’t really plan to move to Portland, specifically, but we had been on the road for a year working on an EPIC music project in 2016 that ultimately ended because of funding problems. We stayed here in Portland because, well, it’s a long story but essentially we got stranded. That being said, I’d toured through Portland dozens of times in the past and had always loved it here, so it wasn’t long until we were back on our feet, making Portland our new home.
A little bit of history about me… I have been a professional electronic music producer for 30 years now. I used to be in a trance/progressive/breaks band called Deepsky back in the early 2000s. If you’re older like me (48 now), you might have heard of us. Our biggest songs were Stargazer, Ghost & Talk Like A Stranger (featuring Jes), Cosmic Dancer… as well as a barrage of remixes for artists like David Bowie, Madonna, Seal, The Crystal Method… the list goes on.
I won’t bore you with the details, but essentially, I’ve been making electronic music for the dance floor and touring around the world for a VERY long time now.
I semi-retired from the EDM scene around 2012, as the lifestyle, the partying, the touring, etc was catching up to me. I started focusing my energy on composing for film/tv and sound design, and also started a company called PSY Acoustics, which started taking all my time. To be honest, it was nice getting out of the scene for a bit, as we were both tired of the drama and the politics everywhere we went.
Still avid lovers of electronic dance music (and becoming more burners than ravers as we were getting older), my wife and started throwing these private parties for our friends on the Columbia River once a year, near where we lived on Jantzen Island. It was only around 100 people or so, but they were a BLAST, and we did it because we still loved the music as well as watching people get together and have an amazing time. I guess old habits die hard.
This will be our 5th Decks on the Beach. This year we decided that instead of keeping it private, that we’d open it up to the public. We invested quite a bit of money into a killer sound system, amazing stage production, as well as a bunch of other fun stuff to take things to the next level, and have partnered several friends, artists and other incredible people to bring this production to you.
At the end of the day, all we really wanna do is bring amazing music and beauty into a world that could DEFINITELY use more of it.
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, then thank you for your time, and we hope you come to Decks On The Beach this year. You won’t be disappointed. Make sure to introduce yourself!!! I’ll be the bald guy running around keeping everything running!
Sincerely,
Jesse, Naomi & The Libra Rising Music Team.
P.S. - The logo... the monkey in the astronaut suit... well... we're all just a bunch of apes trying to evolve and find a higher purpose. Might as well have a sense of humor about it. 😉
