OGK Pictures - From 2009’s ‘The Wild Within’ to a western, a fantasy, and another western’...
In 2009, Oliver Griffiths and George Kenning met each other for the first time at Manor House School in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. According to memory, the first exchange between the two consisted of Oliver asking George the question “Have you ever seen ‘Goodfellas?’ kickstarting one hell of a journey...
In August of 2009, Oliver and George decided take their love of movies a step further, and decided to make their first film in the grounds and woods of Elvaston Castle in Derby. Filmed on an Oylmpus Digital Camera, the two set out to make and act in their first film, blissfully unaware of the techincal requirements necessary to make a film and tell a coherent story. Shots lasting 4 minutes, a complete lack of any script, no props, and multiple characters being played by the two by wearing shirts of their heads to conceal themselves... The final product was interesting, to say the least... but they had made their first film; The Wild Within, and OGK Pictures was born (O - Oliver, G - Griffiths/George, K - Kenning).
In 2010 and 2011, they followed up The Wild Within with The Unknown, and the surprisingly coherent 20-minute long Ordinary Routine. Subsequent attempts to make more shorts ended abruptly, with films being left unfinished after only a handful of days of filming.
But their their biggest project up until then was to come in 2012... a completely unintended feature length film titled Rogue River. Originally conceived to be a 20-minute spy thriller, the plot changed and the genre shifted to that of a western. A new camera was aquired that shot in HD, costumes and props were bought, and they began filming. Over the course of 12 months, the story developed and the runtime increased from 20-minutes to 40-minutes, with a final runtime clocking in at a whopping 119 minutes. Despite the film still being highly flawed technically, Rogue River saw Oliver and George make their very first feature length film, one that is still available to watch on the OGK Pictures YouTube Channel. The film also saw the first collaboration with actor Jacob Kay, who would go on to feature in many of the films Oliver and George would make in the future. Jamie Bee, Allan Rafferty and Linda Ruffle also aided in the making of the film by acting, filming and providing shooting locations over the duration of the shoot.
