Tharindu Welhenage, born on 24th July 1996, is a visionary individual who has made significant contributions to the fields of media, event management, and digital marketing in Sri Lanka. From his early days at Ananda College, Colombo, he displayed exceptional leadership skills and a keen interest in media. During his time at Ananda College, Tha
rindu became a board member of the Broadcasting Unit and was later appointed as one of the chief Sinhala announcers in 2015. He also played a pivotal role in organising the first-ever media award ceremony conducted by a school, known as the "Sandeshaya Awards," which showcased his passion for recognising talent and promoting excellence. In 2015, Tharindu's talent as a filmmaker shone through when he won the all-island school short film competition with his exceptional work titled "Nikmeema," which he directed himself. This achievement further established his reputation as a talented and creative individual. Tharindu's commitment to personal development extended beyond academics and media. He was recognized as a presidential award-winning scout and served as the head prefect at Sri Pannathissa Dhamma School-Malabe in 2014. His dedication to excellence was acknowledged when he received the prestigious "Most Talented Student of the Year" award in 2015. Driven by his passion for journalism, Tharindu pursued specialized studies at the University of Kelaniya, gaining valuable knowledge and skills in the field. After completing his studies, he joined one of Sri Lanka's prominent media channels, "TV Derana," where he worked in the news department and gained valuable experience in journalism. In 2017, Tharindu established his own digital marketing company called "Sky View Productions." As a digital marketing consultant, he successfully served numerous leading businesses in Sri Lanka, helping them enhance their online presence and reach their target audiences effectively. Additionally, Tharindu showcased his talent as an event producer, organising various pageants in collaboration with renowned hotels in Sri Lanka. At the young age of 22, Tharindu decided to address the injustices and substandard practices prevalent in the Sri Lankan modeling industry. In 2019, he introduced his own pageant, Miss Sri Lanka, with a unique concept of "0% Nudity-100% Classy." The event, held at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo, received immense recognition and participation, including Hon. Tharindu's dedication and fresh approach earned him the distinction of being one of the youngest national directors in Asia. The winner of Miss Sri Lanka represented the country in the Miss Tourism pageant held in China, under Tharindu's guidance. Building on his success, Tharindu was appointed as the Event Producer for the 2019 Mrs. Through his commitment and expertise, the winner, Mrs. Caroline Jurie, represented Sri Lanka and brought home the prestigious Mrs. These achievements established Tharindu's reputation as a prominent figure in the event management and pageant industry. Tharindu's outstanding accomplishments and contributions have garnered recognition, and he has been nominated for the Young Asian Excellence Male Personality category in 2021, specifically in the field of Event & Pageantry, as "Excellent Young Asian Male Media Personality & Youngest Sri Lankan Pageant Producer & Director Award 2021." Currently, Tharindu continues to work as a digital marketing consultant and digital creator for respected entities in Sri Lanka. Drawing on his passion for media management, he has embarked on a new journey on YouTube, sharing his insights and perspectives through his channel, "Talk with Tharindu Welhenage." His aim is to challenge the stereotypes of traditional YouTube content and pave the way for new and innovative experiences. Tharindu Welhenage's journey is a testament to his unwavering determination, creativity, and commitment to excellence.
