Our second Feature Friday with Cecil’s pick “‘and that can't come from God,right?’: An Exploration of Queerness and Religious Violence Through
Danez Smith's ‘Genesissy’” by Alex Dickey

“As a q***r person who grew up in a religious family, I always appreciate explorations of the complicated intersections between q***rness and religion. I think Dickey's take stands out particularly for its willingness to call out the violence we often experience at the hands of churches for the abuse it is, while also exhibiting genuine respect for the desire of q***r people to adapt relgion (in this case, Christianity) for ourselves and create safe, affirming spaces within the value systems many of us grew up surrounded by. Overall, this is an unflinching analysis that does justice to an unflinching work!”

Meg Vlaun: I have lived in Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid, and ten US States; I speak four languages. I am a Military Spouse and mother of two teenagers. My creative outlets include writing and photography. I instruct writing/reading at Central New Mexico Community College and study creative nonfiction at the University of New Mexico.

Hi, I'm Cecil (he/him & she/her)! I've never lived in New Mexico before--I'm originally from California--but I couldn't be more excited to be living out of state! I'm here to study Secondary Education, with the goal of teaching English one day. I've known that books and writing are what I want to spend my life with since I read and fell in love with *Carry On* by Rainbow Rowell, so I couldn't be more excited to work with *Limina* and spend the year in even closer proximity to my favorite things! In my free time, I love to write about k-pop and Webtoons, all while I sink farther into the j-rock rabbit hole that Aimer dragged me into last year.

My name is Catalina Chapa. A little bit about me is that I am a photographer specifically 35mm film. Along with attending UNM I work as a florist💐 (I live for aesthetics.) I love to read and go to the gym. I also love to spend my free time thrifting. When I’m not doing any of those things you can find me traveling to CA to see my boyfriend and family or to Chicago to see my sister. I am a senior in college 🥳 and look forward to working with Limina this year.

My name is Tia Donaldson and I am a PhD candidate in Psychology. I am passionate about the brain and science communication. Outside of academia, I volunteer for STEM literacy programs for K-12 students and serve as a community educator for the Alzheimer’s Association. In my spare time I enjoy baking, walking my dogs, and spending time with my nephew. This is my first year with Limina and I am excited to be a part of the team!
