In honor of International Holocaust Rememberence Day, we share , the story of a German-Jew, who at the age of 10 along with his sisters (12 and 14) were taken in by a non-Jewish family in Sweden in order to escape N**i persecution. Excited to share this recently discovered signed and notarized affidavit from Abraham Gildin, Herb Gildin's father, requesting the United States Consular authorities grant visas to Herb and his two sisters (11, 13, 15) who were living with families in Sweden in 1940 after having fled N**i Germany. Due to the guidance of HIAS, the 3 children had escaped Germany and were taken in by Swedish families in the town of Falun, until Abraham and his wife were able to get out of Germany themselves and come to America. Once they reached America, their only goal was to reunite with their children so they could all live together in freedom.
