🚨🚨New Awareness Campaign Alert🚨🚨
In October 1978, a telephone company employee came across the remains of a homicide victim in rural Lyon County, Iowa. It was clear she had been there for a while, and due to exposure, she would go unnamed for over 28 years.
In 2006, a lab technician was able to match Jane Doe's thumbprint to a Wilma June Nissen using fingerprint cards from Los Angeles Police Department, taken before Wilma was killed. Shortly after Wilma was identified, Krissi Atkinson learned the fate of her biological mother thanks to the help of a family friend who'd been working with Krissi to find her biological parents. Krissi had been adopted as an infant by Wilma's former foster parents, and while she had a great childhood, Krissi was always curious about her mother and father. Since learning about her mother's murder, Krissi has spent countless hours advocating for justice and searching for answers.
Limited evidence degradation due to exposure, and the length of time Wilma went unidentified, make solving this case an uphill battle. Investigators learned Wilma was living in Sioux Falls, SD and working for an es**rt service at the time of her death. They also identified two potential suspects, known only by their stage names, "Peaches" and "Sugar." In 2016, investigators released a photo of "Peaches" in hopes of finding her true identity and whereabouts, but so far have not been successful in their search and the investigation stalled.
In October, Season of Justice was able to fund a digital ad campaign targeting Rock Rapids/Lyon County, IA and Sioux Falls, SD. This technology allows us to cover multiple locations with geofencing, linking directly to the Lyon County Sheriff's tip form. Over the next two months, these clickable ads will be displayed over 420,000 times on all web-enabled devices in the targeted areas in hopes of getting new information that can aid detectives in their investigation and give Krissi the answers she's been searching for since first learning about her mother's story.
