Eye-catching posts of vehicles on fire or even exploding have been used repeatedly to claim that electric vehicles are particularly dangerous – but many of these images are taken out of context.
In April 2024, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration declared a global coral bleaching event – the fourth on record. Among the most affected areas was Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Skeptics on social media were quick to reject the role of global warming in triggering the event, but marine biologists told AFP that while corals can heal from bleaching events, their increasing intensity and frequency makes it harder for them to recover.
Posts falsely claim the EU wants to ban the repair of vehicles over 15 years old
🇪🇺🚘 Posts on social media claimed the European Union (EU) wants to “ban repairs for all vehicles over 15 years old.” But this is not true. In 2023, the EU made a proposal to modify the management of end-of-life vehicles, which still hasn’t been approved, but the text does not mention anything specific about vehicles over 15 years old.
