Join us this Sunday at the 2019 MyFM Local Music Awards as we honor this year's MyFM Local Music Hall of Fame inductee Ernie Baraiolo!
Ernie began his musical experience as a result of his machinist father working a part-time job with Al Cass, a Milfordian who developed a trumpet mouthpiece used by many local and international musicians (most notably Dizzy Gilespie). Ernie enjoyed a wonderful music education in the Milford school system and even recorded an LP while in the high school band and played first trumpet on Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler's Holiday”. He completed his undergraduate studies at Berklee college of music (Boston) in 1977 and graduate degree from University of Massachusetts (Lowell) years later.
In the early 80’s Ernie started the “Mahrud” jazz ensemble with Jerry Seeco as the primary arranger and this ensemble is still going strong today as Little Mahrud Jazz Orchestra performing in local clubs and summer concert series. In addition Ernie was very lucky to perform as a freelance musician with many popular performing groups/artists such as the Temptations (My Girl), Little Anthony and the Imperials (Think I’m Going Out Of My Head), Leslie Gore (It’s My Party), Martha and the Vandellas (Dancing In The Streets) and many more. At last count he has performed with seven groups/artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland OH.
One of Ernie’s greatest joys, separate from the joy of music, are all of the friends and colleagues he has met through the years and the comradery enjoyed with musicians of all stripes when trying to provide the best performance possible.
Ernie’s biggest joy and sense of pride comes from almost 40 years of private teaching and teaching in the Medway public schools. To this day he still receive notes and messages from former students describing how important the band program was to them and even describing the Medway band community as “their refuge”.
