Akamai had a massive presence at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe. When asked how Akamai sees itself in this ecosystem, Billy Thompson, Cloud Engineering Manager at Akamai, said, “If we look at cloud as an open source project, the role Akamai plays is to look at areas that need improvements, or new features. We make those improvements, add those features and push the code back upstream.” While more and more ‘traditional’ open source companies are changing licenses, deserting their open source communities, it’s refreshing to see a heavyweight like Akamai putting its weight in favor of open source.
