This essentially made the War of Independence an early World War.

On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, and publicly announced that all enslaved individuals in Texas were now free. This became known as Juneteenth.

Important to note that this happened two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved peoples in the United States.

The holiday originated in Texas, and is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Cel-Liberation Day.

What has caused more war, musery, suffering and human atrocities than anything else?

The other day there was a subway preacher going on and on about how God hates gay people and they’re abominations and yada yada yada. I spoke up and asked if he preaches about the evils of eating shrimp, as Scripture clearly warns against the evils of shellfish far more often.

Of course he didn’t even seem to be aware of it, but that’s how the Bible works, I think. It features conflicting views, one Verse says to love all, another tells you to commit genocide against unbelievers.

Scripture, and not just Christian tells you a myriad of ways to live your life, and the reason it tells you contradictory things is because it’s not meant to be treated like a book, but a mirror.

However you live your life, you can find justification for it, in the Bible, the Talmud or the Koran, whether you live a good life or a wicked one. An evil person quotes Scripture as justification for their atrocities just as good people credit it for good deeds.

But the answer is always inside us, no matter if we worship or we don’t. We all know the difference between right and wrong, but too many of us use religion to justify hatred, bigotry and wholesale horror.

You only need look at the majority of the world’s wars and mass atrocities to see how religion has caused pain, suffering and death on countless human beings.

TL;DR - I’m not gay but don’t care if you are. I hate shellfish but don’t have a problem if you enjoy it. I don’t need religious text to tell me the difference between right and wrong, because I already know the difference and so do you. Religion has caused more war and human atrocities than anything else and it’s not even close.
