The Party Votes Have Been Cast.

Vice President Kamala Harris is officially the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee — making U.S. history as the first Black woman and first Asian American from a major party to win that designation.

Vice President Kamala Harris has won enough delegate votes to secure the Democratic presidential nomination, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Friday, though the results are not yet official.

The DNC will not make an official announcement of results until Monday evening, when the virtual voting process closes for delegates to next month’s Democratic National Convention.

“I will officially accept your nomination next week, once the virtual voting process is closed, but I’m happy to know we have enough delegates to secure the nomination,” Harris said on call with supporters organized by her campaign, where Harrison made the announcement.

Vice President Harris (D) is running against former President Donald Trump (R) to be the 47th President of the United States. This is Harris's fifth solo campaign for public office, having been elected as District Attorney, State Attorney General, and State Senator. It is former President Donald Trumps third campaign for public office, having been elected as President of the United States in 2016 and running for a second term in 2020.

Former President Trump has selected first term Ohio State Senator JD Vance as his running mate for Vice President.

Vice President Harris is expected to name her pick for Vice President soon.

"During former President Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on the evening of July 13th at approximately
6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. US Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated. One spectator was killed, two spectators were critically injured. The incident is currently under investigation and the Secret Service has formally notified the Federal Bureau of investigation."
