Morning Mantra: “Your self-worth depends on you, not what others say or think about you.”

If you’ve never read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz I encourage you to do so. It is a simple, yet profound, way to live life. One of the agreements is “Don’t take anything personally.”

As difficult as this is, it is necessary to remember that nothing others do is because of you. What they say and do is a projection of their OWN reality.

You honestly can’t change how people treat you or what they say about you anyways. All you can only control your reaction to it. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others you won’t play a victim or the villain in their story.

She builds

The truth is
she doesn’t need much.
Least of all, were things she could get herself.
So here’s to the little things
adding up to everything.

You want to make her dreams come true
when all she needs is someone to rest gently
and wake up with slowly alongside.
Someone with words set in stone
and a mind wide open.

Show her what chivalry looks like,
what attention sounds like,
and what passion feels like.
It’s not that she has lesser expectations,
she just knows what actually matters now.
Different traits carry different weights.

I know we’re not always good at these things,
but that’s not a good enough excuse anymore.
She deserves your best,
and so do you.
Look her in the eyes
and tell her
“You matter to me more than you know.
I don’t want any of this without you,
and,
outside of us,
I don’t need much either.”
And maybe,
in that moment,
you’ll see her believe in something other than herself again.
