Simon Birmingham says Israel isn't engaging in collective punishment of Palestinians.

The decision by Hamas to release an American mother and her 17-year-old daughter has no doubt given other families hope.
The two were among those taken hostage during the brutal terrorist attack in southern Israel two weeks ago.
There’s no sign, however, Israel is about to drop its plans for a ground invasion of Gaza to wipe out Hamas.
The Australian government and the parliament have supported Israel’s right to defend itself.
But there’s growing concern over the number of Palestinian civilians being killed – even before the ground invasion begins.
Two Ministers, Ed Husic and Anne Aly, went beyond the official line, accusing Israel of inflicting collective punishment on the people of Gaza.
David Speers interviews Shadow Foreign Minister Simon Birmingham about whether the Coalition thinks Husic and Aly have departed too far from the government’s official policy, and what he thinks Australia’s role in the conflict is to come.

A number of speakers addressed the crowd including representatives from the Indigenous and Palestinian communities, Jenny Leong from the Greens NSW and Michelle Berkon from Jews Against the Occupation.
The march was given late approval on Friday as NSW Premier Chris Minns promised a "zero tolerance" approach to any violence or hate speech.
