It will take just 37 seconds to read this and
change your thinking..

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same
hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an
hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from
his lungs.

His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on
his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their
homes, their jobs, their involvement in the
military service, where they had been on
vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the
window could sit up, he would pass the time by
describing to his roommate all the things he could
see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those
one hour periods where his world would be
broadened and enlivened by all the activity and
colour of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.Ducks and swans played on the water while
children sailed their model boats. Young lovers
walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour
and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen
in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in
exquisite details, the man on the other side of
the room would close his eyes and imagine this
picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window
described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band -
he could see it in his mind's eye as the
gentleman by the window portrayed it with
descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring
water for their baths only to find the lifeless body
of the man by the window, who had died
peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital
attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man
asked if he could be moved next to the window.
The nurse was happy to make the switch, and
after making sure he was comfortable, she left
him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one
elbow to take his first look at the real world
outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window
besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have
compelled his deceased roommate who had
described such wonderful things outside this
window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and
could not even see the wall.

She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage
you.'

Epilogue:
There is tremendous happiness in making others
happy, despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness
when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things
you have that money can't buy.
'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The
Present .'

Patna, July 20 (IANS) Cooking oil with strains of toxic insecticide compound organophosphorus was used for making food at a Bihar primary school where 23 children died after a free meal, police said Saturday, citing a forensic report.
"The Forensic Science Laboratory report has found organophosphorus in oil samples collected from the school where the mid-day meal was prepared and consumed by the children in Saran district. The compound is used in farm insecticides," Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Ravinder Kumar told reporters here.
Ravinder Kumar said strains of Monocrotophos, an organophosphate insecticide, were present in the food. "It is highly toxic."
"It was also observed by the scientists of the FSL that the poisonous substance in oil samples was more than five times the commercial preparation available in the market," he said.
The official said the forensic evidence collected from the school was analysed at FSL here.
He said that it was a matter of investigation that how and from where this poisonous substance got mixed in the oil.
"I will not go into the details as FSL report will help the ongoing investigation into the mid day meal tragedy," he said.
According to a Saran district official, the forensic experts collected samples of the oil used to cook the meal late Tuesday night. "The oil samples had a bad odour," officials said.
Amarjeet Sinha, principal secretary, education, earlier said preliminary findings pointed to insecticide poisoning of the oil and vegetables used in the meal.
The post-mortem of the children confirmed presence of a poisonous substance in the potato-soyabean curry served to them .
Soon after the deaths, a top government official said that he suspected it could be organo-phosphorous poisoning caused due to traces of insecticides in vegetables. He added that doctors had told him that atropine had a positive effect on the affected children.
He also did not rule out contamination of the oil used to prepare the curry consumed by children Tuesday in the school in Gandaman village of the district, 80 km from Patna.
Chandrasekhar Singh, a doctor in a government hospital in Saran, who treated several children said 10 kids, who did not eat the curry, are safe. "As many as 55 of 65 children fell ill after having the curry and some died," he said.
According to district officials, the meal consisted of rice, pulses and the curry.
Parents of several children told officials that their children fell ill due to poisonous vegetable. "Some children, who consumed only rice and pulses, did not fall ill," they said.
A government inquiry report has blamed Meena Devi, absconding principal of the government primary school, for the deaths.
"There is no trace of her. The administration has decided to attach her property to put pressure on her to come forward," Saran Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar said.
According to district officials probing the incident, Meena Devi had forced the cook to use the "toxic" oil despite the latter's complaint that it had a pungent smell.

ROME (Reuters) - Four Costa Concordia crew members and a company official were sentenced to jail in Italy on Saturday for their part in the 2012 cruise ship disaster that killed 32 people, leaving only Captain Francesco Schettino still on trial.
The five received sentences of between 18 and 34 months for multiple manslaughter, negligence and shipwreck - relatively short punishments for the crimes, in exchange for pleading guilty.
None of the five are likely to be jailed as the sentences of under two years were suspended and the longer ones may be appealed or replaced with community service, judicial sources said.
"What will the families of the victims think? This is truly disappointing," said Daniele Bocciolini, a lawyer for the victims. "Schettino remains the only one on trial, but not the only one at fault, in my opinion," he told SkyTG24.
Schettino, 52, remains on trial for manslaughter and causing the loss of his ship which struck a rock off the Tuscan island of Giglio in January 2012, causing a chaotic evacuation of more than 4,000 passengers and crew. He is also seeking plea bargain to reduce a possible jail sentence.
The crisis coordinator for vessel owner Costa Cruises , Roberto Ferrarini, was given the lengthiest sentence, two years, 10 months, followed by cabin services manager Manrico Giampedroni who was given two-and-a-half years.
On Wednesday, Schettino's lawyers offered to accept a sentence of three years, five months in return for a guilty plea. A previous offer to serve three years, four months was rejected in May and he risks a much heftier sentence if no plea bargain is agreed. Hearings resume in September.
The captain is accused of abandoning ship before all crew and passengers had been rescued. A coastguard's angry phone order to him - "Get back on board, damn it!" - became a catch phrase in Italy after the accident.
His lawyers argue that he prevented a worse disaster by steering the 290-metre (950-ft) vessel into shallow waters after the impact, and that he was thrown overboard due to the angle of the leaning ship, which still lies rusting off the picturesque island. Lucknow, July 20 (IANS) A teenaged girl was burnt alive in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnore district, police said.
The incident took place Friday in Mudhaal village, 435 km from here.
Police said a home guard's daughter had gone missing last month, only to resurface after three days from Unnao.
The family suspected Kiran, daughter of another villager Suraj Singh, to be behind the girl's disappearance.
The incensed kin chased Kiran when she was returning after buying groceries, doused her in kerosene and set her ablaze in the middle of the road, in full public view.
The girl ran and slumped outside her home.
She was taken to a medical facility from where she was referred to the Bijnore district hospital where she died Friday night.
A first information report (FIR) was lodged against five people - Bheem Singh, Pintu, Ajay, Babloo and Kailash.
The girl, in her dying declaration before an additional district magistrate, had named the assailants.
The assailants are on the run.
A few days back, a girl was gang r**ed and burnt alive in a village in Etawah, the home town of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. She succumbed to her injuries Friday.

#1. Is a simple life too much to ask for?

When I was little, it was discovered that I have an extremely high IQ. My parents told me this for the first time when I was 8 years old and ever since I have been ‘playing stupid’. I score just enough in school to pass each year and sometimes I make mistakes while performing more complex tasks (doing mathematics, spelling, articulating) on purpose to blend in with society.

The reason for this is that I was bullied in elementary school because I didn’t know how to interact with other children of my age. I am now 18 and I have stacks of paper piled up in a drawer with a lock on it, all of them essays on various areas in science, mostly mathematics and phychics subjects, though also short stories, poetry and philosophical work. Last night I found a paper I wrote when I was 9 in which I explained in my own words Newton’s laws of physics. It’s been 10 years since I started repressing my intelligence and sometimes I just don’t know how to carry on like this for the rest of my life.

I test my IQ anonymously every few months and it has been around 165 for the past two years. I would love to exchange 50 points or so for an easier life, because sometimes I just make things hard on myself. (e.g. social life, philosophical thinking resulting in depression, head filled with insights the world doesn’t want to hear about)

Thanks for allowing me to throw this out here.
