Why Chat Noir? Le Chat Noir (Black Cat in French) was a famous cabaret in Paris, its posters and symbol are sold everywhere as souvenirs. It also happens to be a place in which "shadow plays" were performed, a precursor to cinema. (Or "proto-cinema" as Werner Herzog would say)
