We are devastated at the loss of our Co-Founder, filmmaker Idriss Kpange. Idriss was inspired to set up Opin Yu Yi after visiting the FESPACO film festival in Burkina Faso. He cared deeply about sharing Sierra Leonean stories and bringing films to communities. He inspired our community outreach programme, taking films to areas such as Kroo Bay, and our mobile cinema project.

10 years ago today we launched Opin Yu Yi. We faced so many challenges but Idriss always found solutions - whether it was a generator breaking or how to transport a handmade cinema screen. Most of all Idriss loved people. And through his films, the film festival and his generous smile and spirit, he touched so many and opened their eyes to new ideas and perspectives.

Idriss, thank you. Our lives are better for knowing you. Your legacy and creativity lives on.
