๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐จ๐ญ๐๐๐๐ญ๐จ - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 has engaged with 25 newly-elected barangay chairpersons surrounding the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) to heighten the enforcement of various environment and natural resources (ENR) laws.
In a capacity building organized by the SBPS Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) on Thursday (Feb. 15), the barangay chairs were familiarized on their roles in implementing environment-related policies to further the safeguarding of the protected seascape.
For. Shalimar A. Disomangcop, provincial environment and natural resources officer (PENRO) of Sarangani, said the local officials play a crucial role in enforcing environmental laws, including the protection of wildlife within the bay. He said that with the help of the heads of barangays, illegal activities within the SBPS can be prevented.
Aside from their roles in enforcing ENR laws, the local officials were also capacitated on the overview of the SBPS; Republic Act 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018; RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act; Presidential Decree No. 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines; Settling land-related conflicts, cases, and issues; and the Presidential Decree No. 1067 or The Water Code of the Philippines.
Serving as resource persons were PENRO Disomangcop, DILG Sarangani Provincial Director Samuel Camaganacan, SBPS Protected Area Superintended Cirilo A. Lagnason, Jr., Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (CENROs) Joy C. Ologuin (Glan), Elmer S. Mercado (Gensan) and Felix D. Robles (Kiamba), and EMB-12 - Sarangani Provincial Environmental Management Unit-Supervising EMS Lyra Ocampo.
The barangay officials said the capacity buildin
