Fenders Removed - C6 Corvette Project - P8

Don't worry. I'm not putting 22's on my Corvette :). Those are wheels for my GMC Sonoma once I bag it.

Once the bumper cover and the headlights were out, I saw just how dirty everything was. It's time to remove the fenders. Once the fenders are off, I can properly clean everything underneath them. Here's how to remove fenders from a 2005-2013 C6 Corvette.

Tools that you'll need:

1. 9/32 socket
2. 10mm socket
3. Flathead screwdriver
4. Torx T15 screwdriver

Remove all of the T15 Torx screws from the top of the fender. Once the screws are out, remove the rubber/plastic piece that's separating the fender from the windshield: there's another T15 Torx screw underneath there too. Remove the 6 clips and the two 10mm bolts underneath the car that are holding the wheel well liner. With the wheel well liner removed, you'll have a good look at the 9/32 bolt that's inside of the fender (towards the firewall). This needs to be removed. There are another two 9/32 bolts underneath the car holding the fender in place. Finally, there's one 10mm bolt towards the front of the car, underneath the headlight area that's holding the fender bracket in place. Remove it and the bracket comes off too.

You will have to remove the bumper cover first. If you need instructions on how to do that, that video, along with this one, are on my YouTube page.

Brake Calipers & Rotors Removed - C6 Corvette Project - P7

Decided to get the brakes off today. The calipers are held by 2x15mm bolts. You need to use a 15mm socket and 18mm wrench to take the caliper off. Once the caliper is off, pop out the brake pads. The caliper bracket is held by 2x21mm bolts. Remove them and the caliper bracket slides out. The brake rotor may be held by small clips that need to be removed from each lug-bolt. Once those are removed, slide the rotor off. The rears are a little more difficult to slide off than the front. My driver-side rotor wasn't coming off easily, so I used a rubber hammer to help push it out.

Headlights Removed - C6 Corvette Project - P6

The headlights are simple to remove from the C6 Corvette once you have the bumper cover off. With the bumper cover off, remove the remaining Torx T15 screw from each fender (right next to the headlight). From the bottom, remove the 3x10mm screws that are holding the headlight in place. Pull the fender up slightly and push the headlight from the bottom. Wiggle the headlight out and disconnect the 2 wires.

Had to get new valve stems for the Sonoma since they dry-rotted. Took it to my local tire shop (Antony's Tire) to get them replaced. The guy's a beast. In and out in ~15 minutes. The truck is done and going home this weekend. In the meantime, the STi is proving to be quite versatile: 4x20" wheels/tires and a car seat. Not too bad.

Bumper Cover Removed - C6 Corvette Project - P5

Time to remove the front bumper cover from my C6 Corvette. The process is pretty much identical for 2005-2013 Corvettes.

The tools that you'll need are:
1. 9/32 socket
2. 10mm socket
3. Flathead screwdriver
4. Phillips head screwdriver
5. Torx T15 screwdriver

There are 4 bolts that you'll need to remove from the front of the bumper, right in front of the hood, all 9/32nds. On each side, you'll remove the front Torx screw with your T15 torx screwdriver from both fenders. Underneath the Corvette, you will need to remove 5 bolts (9/32) from each side to take off the scrape guards. Next to each of those is a 10mm bolt that needs to be removed from both sides. Towards the middle bottom, there should be 5 bolts that need to be removed from the bumper cover. Remove the 5 clips that are inside the wheel well that connect to the bumper cover, as well as 1 clip that's right next to it. That will give you access inside the bumper. There are 2x10mm bolts that need to be removed from each side. Disconnect the amber lights and the fog lights and you're ready to remove the bumper cover. You can also push the amber lights out to have even more room. Where the bumper meets the hood, raise the plastic from the 2 clips to dislodge the bumper cover. Close the hood and work the bumper cover off.

Hood Removed - C6 Corvette Project - P3

The Harmonic Balancer will definitely have to be removed. To get a better view of the engine, and so that it's just not in my way anymore, I decided to take the hood off of my C6 Corvette. Pretty straightforward process that takes about 5 minutes with two people. You just need to remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the hood on each side, 4 in total, and take the hood off.

Harrison Pushed me to begin - C6 Corvette Project - P2

I feel like I did the same thing with my C5 Corvette build. I got all hyped up and then nothing. It feels like I just enjoy having a project car inside the garage. My son is the one that motivated me to start again. He took his camera and said "it's time to go work on the Corvette. I want to take some pictures."

Up on Jackstands - C6 Corvette Project - P1

Having a lowered Corvette can be painful every-so-often. Just swapping the car position inside the garage is a process with two lowered Corvettes. The C5 is so low that I had to place boards just to be able to clear the left side of the garage. Once the C6 was in, I used one floor jack to raise the car from the back and slid the ramps underneath the rear tires; I repeated the process in the front. Then I raised the vehicle again and placed the jack-stands underneath the rear and front crossmembers. It's a balancing act but I did the C5 the exact same way. It sat like that for months without any issues. I do like to leave the floor jacks on both sides just to balance the car even more.
