Dear readers and writers,

It is with sadness that we must announce that CultNoise will not be returning.

We have thought long and hard about how to bring CultNoise back in ways that would benefit the magazine's legacy, but sadly things have not worked out. This wasn't an easy decision. CultNoise meant the world to us, and in many ways consumed our lives for the better part of 2 years.

Many of the previous reasons still stand: Sami's deteriorating mental health, my caring for her, and my own mental illness all contributes to a situation that makes the demands of running a daily magazine extremely difficult if not impossible.

The editors have also now moved on to new projects that better suit their current lifestyles, and require much less daily focus than the running of CultNoise. Sami now manages Inside The Bell Jar, a literary magazine focusing on mental illness, while Matt manages Between Worlds, a literary magazine focused on speculative fiction. We hope you'll find your way there and 'like' their respective pages, and perhaps submit some of your own fiction too.

For now, we would like to thank everyone who contributed and read CultNoise over the years. Writers should consult the CultNoise Writers Facebook Group or email [email protected] for details on how to claim articles. The facility to do so will close August 25th.

With warmest regards and thanks,
Matt Sloan and Sami Clara

Hey all,

We are very sorry to announce that, effective immediately, CultNoise Magazine will be closing its doors.

This hasn't been an easy decision to make, and we have thought long and hard about ways that we could possibly continue the magazine in some capacity, but due to a number of reasons this is not possible.

Chief of these reasons is Sami's current mental health. As I'm sure you all know, Sami originally founded the magazine with our previous editor Sara Larkham due to her ongoing mental health struggles and status as a housebound person. Her mental health has continued to deteriorate over the past year however, meaning that she has consistently been unable to fulfil the ongoing duties that the magazine requires of her. These duties include not only editing and keeping up with emails, but also the management side of things. Simply put, Sami will be unable to continue with the magazine without her mental health deteriorating further. This deterioration has been severe, resulting in a su***de attempt shortly before Christmas due to the pressures that the magazine put her under, combined with her wider mental health struggles.

As Sami's carer, I am also required to focus on supporting her and facilitating any needs that she may have. This takes away the time required to focus on the magazine, and honestly would do all of you a disservice. As things currently stand, I am afraid that we will be unable to meet these standards.

This is not to say that there may not, in the future, be some sort of CultNoise 2.0. Honestly though, this decision is heartbreaking, and we both wish that there were some way we could continue. We have met some wonderful people through our positions as editors of CultNoise, and count all of you as our very best friends. You made the magazine what it became, not us. We are proud to have been your editors, and wish you the very best for the future.

For now, thank you for all of your love and endless support. We couldn't have gotten as far as we did without you. Thank you to all of our readers, writers and copy-editors for everything you have done.

All our love,
Matt, Sami, and all of us here at CultNoise

Hey everyone,

We wanted to give you an update as to the current status of CultNoise. We are currently working to resolve some unforeseen circumstances, which unfortunately necessitate the temporary closure of the magazine. We hope to have this matter resolved swiftly, but we will likely remain closed until mid-February.

Thank you for your patience, and we will see you soon.

Love,
Sami, Matt, and all of us here at CultNoise

Interview: New Pharaohs

"Maya Marie, formerly of London-based electronic band Sohodolls, has spent the last ten years plugging away and getting her music featured on some rather significant American TV shows. Now, Maya has turned her new attention to a new project called New Pharaohs. With the release of 'This Changes Everything', it seems time to get the recognition she so rightly deserves."

Dismantling Islamophobia: The Qur'an According to Muslims | CultNoise

In order to illustrate that no religion is inherently good or evil, it’s down to how people choose to interpret it, we asked our readers to share their stories and interpretations of Islam to create a genuine and accurate picture of the religion. We at CultNoise believe that all forms of discrimination are unacceptable, and Islamophobia, too, should not be tolerated. ISIS and other extremist groups are not representative of Islam or any other religion, as our contributors told us:

CultNoise shares stories from Muslims and/or people who have studied the Qur'an to show what Islam truly stands for in order to tackle Islamophobia.

An Open Letter to the One Who 'Never Meant To Hurt Me' | CultNoise

Dear You,

I don't think you intended to break my heart. In fact, you said once that your entire goal was not to hurt me, and thinking that I was broken, you said that you failed. At the time, I told you that you didn't fail: you didn't break me, I told you, but I had yet to be broken.
