OPINION (PART 2)
A few days ago, DepEd released a memo containing a set of conducts for professional teachers to follow. One that caught most netizens' attention was, how educators were mandated to avoid interaction with their learners outside the school and outside class hour, including the use of social medias. Here's what The Pioneer officers have to say about this:
*************

"A friendship between a teacher and their learner shouldn't be restricted as it strengthens the bond between them and motivates the learner to take in more information given to them; thus, performing better in school.
What she said provides no valid point and it won't make the country a better place than it is— to be fair, she probably grew up with a horrible teacher her whole life. She also said, "meron talagang line between the teacher and the learner.", Which is very true but it shouldn't be maximized to the point where it restricts friendly interactions between the student and the teacher. There is already a line that exists, it's called respect, and that line is enough as it's already engraved in most students'minds' and it shouldn't be crossed.
That is all that I have to say."
-Alexis Tataro, Feature Editor

*************

'Personally, I believe that teachers and students should practice healthy boundaries. They can be friends, but respect, discipline, and fairness must be observed.
Not allowing students and teachers to have friendly relations outside the school means we shouldn't apply the things that we have learned in school in real-life. We've been taught to always greet our teachers when we see them because it is basic manners to recognize and respect them even outside the school, so I was shocked and disappointed when I heard about the new deped order. Another reason why I disagree with Sara Duterte's statement is because students can't message their teachers about their concerns, and vice versa. It also seems like DepEd doesn't know their priorities. Instead of focusing on improving our education's system, lack of school facilities, raising the salary of teachers, providing the right tools for teachers and learners, they are making an order about something trivial. In their minds, they think that Deped order no. 49 will be favorable to us, but I think this might cause a rift between teachers and students, and it is not something that we need in order to progress."
-Ashley Baco, Copyreader and Headliner

*************

"I disagree with the newly released Deped Order No. 49s 2022 that tells our Educators "to avoid having any interactions, communication and following a learners social media outside the school setting unless they are relatives". Eversince I was a child, I was taught to pay respect to my peers whenever i see them, a simple greeting and a simple catch up with them will do. It was taught by my parents, relatives and especially in our school. It was mentioned all the time to the point that it was getting annoying. As a child, I did not know the importance of learning those to be repeated everyday. Until I realized that greeting and acknowledging someone's presence is one of the basic human etiquette. Doing those act to acknowlege someone was a sign of respect to the person whom i know inside or outside the school grounds. Therefore, I cannot comprehend the use and significance of the order number 49s 2022 since it is impolite to ignore and walk passed by someone i know especially my advisers and for having a simple interaction that builds a superstition of the educators being biased to the students they have socialized with outside the school grounds is so upsetting and dissapointing. What is the purpose of teaching us to apply the human etiquette in our lives when you discourage and doubt us and our educators?
-Jemmina Jamila, Sports Editor

"I agree that there should be a boundary between students and teachers, but putting a LINE between the two is not helping at all. The friendship that is created makes it easier to study. I have observed that teachers prefer to show who truly they are outside of school, and when in class, they take a serious tone to show professionalism. Therefore, knowing who actually they are relieve students. It causes them to lose hesitations to ask. Furthermore, teachers have become students' second parents, hence asking teachers and greeting them outside of class is inevitable. Lastly, there may be some who are biased, but there are lots of issues that need to be addressed instead, such as lack of facilities, accessibility of education, teacher shortage, and underpaid teachers. So, why does it always seems like DepEd focuses more on minor issues?
-Mikaela Medina, Science Editor

***********
"The interaction between teacher and student is normal in school because the teacher stands as our second parent in school, and I don't see anything wrong with that."
-Hanz Rivera, Associate Editor

OPINION (PART 1)
A few days ago, DepEd released a memo containing a set of conducts for professional teachers to follow. One that caught most netizens' attention was, how educators were mandated to avoid interaction with their learners outside the school and outside class hour, including the use of social medias. Here's what The Pioneer officers have to say about this:
************

"Is being friendly an illegal act now? It is the policy of the department to be friendly, isn't it? A child-friendly environment so to speak! The teachers are our second parents. Many learners are inspired to study and learn because their teacher is a friend even when there was no social media."
- Paul Callorina, Managing Editor

************

"I disagree. because FRIENDLY RELATIONSHIP between the student and teacher outside the school should be allowed since it's just a form of bonding and it's just getting know each other. Besides teachers are adults, So they are aware if they are being biased in their classroom. And I believe that a mindset of a teacher in a classroom is that every student is equal to one another."
- Christian Monion, Video Editor

************

"The idea of having biased treatment among the students when a teacher befriended one of them is entirely unreasonable. How will the students be comfortable learning with their teachers when they can't even have a friendly relationship with them? This order will not improve our education system nor fill the learning gaps that the DepEd is trying to solve. But instead, only affect the professional relationship between the students and educators."
-Irish Merceda, Editor-in-Chief

*************

"My opinion towards the VP is slowly getting worse with how she views the relationship towards students and teachers. Both the student and the teacher has a boundary that they know they shouldn't cross especially towards the students side where they get too comfortable they start to disrespect the teachers. But the way Sara Duterte is implying that any type of relationship that the a teacher and a student in any form is deemed unimportant, which is not true especially when a student have a positive view towards a teacher would make make a student be more attentive and listen closely towards someone they respect."
-Nian Lopez, Cartoonist
